To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JOHN CUOMO, a citizen of ltal y, residing at New York city, in the county of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knitting Devices; and T do hereby declare the following to ybe a full, clear, and exact descriptionof the invention, such. as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in knitting devices, and especially to needle holders.

One object of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this character which is especially adapted for holding the needle on which the material is partially knitted, so that the two hands will be free to manipulate the working needles and the wool or thread.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved device wherein the idle needle will be supported on the person of the user in proper position to permit the knitting to be carried out in less time and with less elfort.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.

Referring to the drawing, l represents a tubular member formed of metal or other suitable material and of the desired length and diameter for the purpose intended and having one open and one closed end. Secured to the tubular member l0 so that the latter will conform to its longitudinal axis, is a plate 1l, the upper end of which is conveXly curved, extends equally at both sides of the member l0 and is disposed in close relation to the open upper end of the mein- Specication of Letters Patent.

ber l0. The sides of the plate ll extend convergingly downwardly from the extremities of its upper curved end, to the tubular member l0. Thus there are provided laterally directed rigid wings adjacent the open end of the tubular member.

In each of the wings of the plate there is formed an opening l2 and passed through these openings is a ribbon or other fiexible member, arranged to be fastened around the waist of the user, said flexible member being shown at 13. The marginal edges of the plate are rolled to prevent injury to the person. Into the open upper end of the tube is inserted the needle 14 used in knitting, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings.

It is well known that when knitting socks,

the knit-ter must hold the needle which supports the knitting' while the other or operating` needles are applied, thus adding to the tediousness of the knitting opera-tion. Also when knitting with two large needles, the knitter usually holds one of them, the one containing the knitting, under the arm. yVith the present device, this may be obviated, as the work supporting needle may be held in the member l0 in lirni and close relation to the persons body, thus leaving the hands free. Furthermore, the work is supported at the right height with respect'to the body and hands of the knitter. lt will also be understood and appreciated that the hands are prevented from cramping by reason of the fact that the w rk-supporting needle is not held in the hands.

In use, it is not always necessary to employ the attaching member 13. The wings ll are gripped between the arm and the body of the user, when the ieXible member 13 is not employed.

l. A. knitting device including a tubular needle support, open at one end only and having` laterally directed rigid wings adjacent its open end.
