Tu 1M :Nun/L it 'amy concern.:
lle it known that l. VXLLIAM W. Lmnn, a citizen nl' the United States of America., residing al; Manalield, in the county uf Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Furnaces, of which the following in a Speer [icat ian.
ThiaV Aaccntion reiatea tu sheet inetal heating turuaee` and eapeeially adapted for uae in burning;r pmrdereil cual.
mhe use in heet metal rolling! milley ai the, cuiivcntienal type ot' furnace for heating! sheet metal has many disadvantage-a, whirh arc efapecially aggravated when pm".'tle`i'ef.l fuel ia hurried in upcratiug ,mmc fm' heat ing purpnsesl. tuur is provided and adapted tu rest upon and he siiipnrted by the sidra front and real' alla mi' the furnace thereby forming a rhaniher lt? into which the `aheet metal is placed and supported mi the corrugated hott tuin 1l preparatmy to heatingr Same for the purpose intended.
The furnace elianihcr and huttmn is preferahly divided hy a partition wall l2 which 'is `huilt iu thc center (if the chamher runningr fruni the front wall 25 rearwardly tu a pre determined point adjacent tu the rear walls at' the furnace and it interaech` at vaid point' with hridgc \\'al| lli and H. The partition and bridge walls` du nut extend tu the roof ut' th(` furnace au that hath sides of the chamber that are dixideil h3 the partition wall 1;! are aliray in cuuinuinitation with eaeh other. The ln-idge allay arcpreferably ion jmit a. forceddraft, to be provided with tapered projecting portions 15 und 1o which serve aus deflectorn. The bottom 1T ol the Gre box is connected with the bridge walliey and inclincs or slopes downAv wnrdlv und is connected or attached to the `front ends of the reni' wells `rl und 5 und the bridge walls. y
T he above described construction proj/idee es shown in Figs. l and 3 n fire box having :L downwardlv inclined or sloped bottom-` vinti! the rear ivalls of the furnaf-.e dverging toward the side Walls ol the furnace thereby forming a fire box that gradually enlarges toward the furnace chamber and which merges into the full width thereof as shown in Fig. 3. Preferably at a` point vvhere the rear walls 4 and 5 merge into the slde Walle l and 2 and adjacent. to the bottoni of the furnace, a flue 18 is provided running from one side. of the furnace to the other and it is in communication with fines i9 and 20 which in turn communicate with a stack 21.
Blues 22 and 23 are provided in the eide walls 1 and 2 0f the furnace and preferubljvy inolhed downwnrdly towurd the front und bottoni 11 of the furnace. The openingv :il prmjide communication between the finer: an fire box 8. The lines 22 and 23 aim communicate with luee 2l which are open to the air to induce a naturel draftlor perapplied thereto. The fines 25 formed in the front Walls of the furnace as Shown in Fig. B also con'unnni cate with the flues 22, 23 and 25 es shown in he ends of the rear Walle 4 and 5 of the furnace have the apertured plete 26 ab tached thereto which is provided with open ing 2 and 28 which aline with the open ende of the lines 25 thereby admitting atmos pherie nir into fill the connecting Hnos and also providing mennel of applying steam or nir pipe connections to create n forced draft if desired through the finer` 'for pnrpofar which will be described particularly hereinafter.
I order to regulate the forced or natural drarflliof the lines, adjustable dempers 29 are'provided to close or open lines llleand 20 more or less. To the plate 26 the door G is hinged in a conventional manner and it carries the conventional type of burner 7 for burning powdered coal or the like. This1 door und plate provide a closure for a part of the opening formed between the rear wells 4 and 5 of the furnace and also pron vides means whereby ready and convenient access een be hed to the fire box b v simply swinring the door on its hinges. The inelinen bottom 17 of the fire box is eonstrucfed so that its end will be positioned below the bott YIn of the door 6 leaving an aurilinryv opening;r 32 Whioh is normally closed b v n hinged door Mits shown in Figs. l und l. This arrangement provides a means of removing the lug or other debrie that accumulates in the fire box H without, opening or removing the door fl.
The inclined bottom 1T ol` the lire box provideel means ol' permitting the slug or other rlebl'irly to full by gruivity toward the owning 32. lv'hen the :ui-cumulution of Slag or other drbl'ie in dcpoeitl-.d or l'rurnod in the lire box und ilj is desired to remove the same therefrom the npnru'l or opi-rn1 the door 34 and removes tlnslag or other debril without disturbing or openingy the door 80 which carries the burner or in any nurnner interfering with the operution of the furnace.
It will be observed hnl thiv cleaning process can be performed during the. operation of the furnuws unil burning ol" the fuel in the fire box with eusse und convenient-e. lVhen, howevert it in desired to repair llw` fire borL or interior ol the furnrn'e flu. door covering the opeliiiflg ifi und the door roven ing the opening' ll run lunlz lu" Hurling; ou their hinges from the openingu ilu-roby per' milling( enen' und convenir-nt lia-w+ througlli the medium of the combined ollwningn to the interior ol the 'urnuwr teu' Ypui-powdesired.
To provide menne` 'for rlrunlng the roof lo of the furnace steam or uir pipes 37 and 3B :ire nested in elnunhere 8i) und t0 formed in the Side wells of the furnace. und they are provided with u-Series of 41 ull winged :it predetermined [mieteV which aline with openings conmiunienting with the chamber 10 of the furnace. The openings nre inclined upward toward the roof 36 of the fnrnuee es shown in Fig'. und when it in dreired to Glenn the roof of the furnace n. strfun or nir connection 'lll pipeey Btl und 3i' from enf; Source of Supelv, spraying the steam or forcing the nir enamel different Joints of the roofof the furnace., thereby cleaning saine of the dint.
The jets 41 are arranged and disposed in the side walls preferably in parallel but in o'eet relation to euch other. The cross horizontelflue 18 isbrought into communication with the ehameber l() by a series of openings 44 arranged at predetermined points across the entire Width of the furnace.
The mouth of the 'furnace 45 is closed by the usual conventional Sliding door 4G. Attention is celled to the fact that openin are provided throughout the furnace that inten sect with the lines at verious points for cleaning purposes so that the f'lues can be cleaned during the operation of the furnace at any time desired. The Hue. openings are closed by conventional hinged doorsl such as shown at, 47 and 48.
