IMPROVEMENT IN THlLL-COUPLINGS.
Specification forming partof Letters Patent No. 130,624, dated August 20, 1872.
Specication describing' a new and useful Improvement in Shiftingl Thill-Clip, invented by GEORGE W. DELAMATER and PEiLrP DELAMATER, of Itonkonkoma, in the county of Suffolk and State of New York.`

Our invention has for its object to furnish an improved clip for connecting thills and poles to carriages in such a Way that thills and poles may be conveniently shifted even when the thill-irons are at did'erent distances apart; and it consists in the thill-clip conhorizontal anda vertical longitudinal slot, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The horizontal slot is designed to receive the shank of the eyes B, to which the thill-iron eyes are pivoted by a bolt. The shank of the eyes B is made square so that it may tit in the slot of the clip A, and has a square hole formed in it directly opposite the vertical slot of the `said clip A, to receive thesquare bolt G, which is passed through the vertical slot of the said clipA, the square sides of thc bolt C resting against the square sides of the said slot. The bolt C is secured in place by a nut and Washer, as shown in Fig. 2. By this construction, by simply loosening the nuts of the bolts C, the the eyes B may be slipped along the clip A to adjust said eyes to the distance apart of the thill-irons of the thills or poles to be attached, enabling the thills or pole to be readily and quickly shifted. parts A B O that bear against each other are all made square or plane so that the said parts 'may be firmly connected to each other without any tendency to turn or Work'loose.
Having thus described our invention, We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The clip A provided with yokes or arms a', and slotted longitudinally with vertical and horizontal slots to adapt it to receive the square shank of the eyes B and the square bolt C, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
