Description

c. R. PEIRCIE.
Improvement in Egg-Beaters.
Patented Aug.20,1 872.
' INVENTOR a wwxma ssasz UNITED Smalls PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES R. PEIROE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENN SYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN EGG-BEATERS.
.Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,591, dated August 20, 1872.
Specification describing certain Improvements in Egg-Beaters, invented by CHARLES R. PEIRGE, of the city of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania.
My invention relates to the combination with the egg-holding pan or cup and its cover, of a vertical rotary spindle or shaft, provided with suitable beating-arms or skeletonwings within the holder, and a fixed horizontal momentum-wheel above the cover, and also with a loosely-fitting horizontal bar suspended by a cord which is attached to the upper endof the spindle or shaft, while the ends of the cord are attached to the respective ends of the loosely-fitting bar, all arranged in such a manner that alternating rotarymotions given to the spindle cause. the cord to be alternately wound and unwound around the same, and consequently the horizontal bar, through which thespindle turns, caused to rise and fall, the
motions being continued by the downward pressure of ones finger applied near the center of the bar, in alternation with the momentum of the wheel on the spindle, the object of my invention being the production of a more simple, inexpensive, and reliable eg -beater.
Figure 1 is a vertical section. Fig. 2 is a plan or top view.
Referring to said figures, A is the vertical spindle or shaft; B, the momentum-wheel, fixed rigidly to the shaftA; G, the loose horizontal .bar; D D, the cord by which the bar 0 is suspended from the upper end of the vertical shaft or spindle A; E, a pan or holder for the egg, provided with an adjustable cover or lid, 0, and a central step, e, in which the spindle or shaft A rests while supported by the lid 6.
The spindle A and. the momentum-wheel B should be made of metal, and of sufificient size and weight to correspond with the size and capacity of the holder E. The bar 0 may be made of wood.
The beater-arms or wings a a may be made in any of the common forms, either of wire or of sheet metal. tum-wheel, bar, and cord attached, rests in the step e in the center of the bottom of the holder E, and is supported in the required vertical position therein, by means of a hole in the center of the cover 0.
The operation of the machine is as follows: A slight push being given to the momentumwheel in either direction around the spindle,
the cord D will be wound around the spindle,
' when a slight downward pressure being made upon the bar 0 by ones fingers placed 'near the spindle, a contrary motion will be given to the spindle which will unwind the cord, and the momentum of the. wheel B then rewinds the cord in an opposite direction, ready for a repetition of the downward pressure of the fingers of the operator, and so on until the egg mass is sufficiently beaten.
I claim as my invention- The combination, with the egg-holding vessel E and cover 6 or their equivalents, of the spindle A, provided with suitable beatingarms or wings a a, a momentum-wheel, B, loosely-fitting bar 0, and cord D D, the said parts being arranged to operate together as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
CHARLES R. PEIRGE.
