To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT RUSH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Joints for Metallic Stash and the like, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention generally is to provide an improved joint for cross bars adapted more especially lfor use in the manufacture of metallic sash whereby simplicity and economy of manufacture are promoted and increased strength of the joint attained. This object I attain specifically by cutting or notching the head portion and a portion ofthe web of one of the bars and depressing the head and notching the web of the other bar so that the first described bar can be placed on the second bar with the ends of the head of the first bar where notched superposed thereon and thereby supported on the web of the second bar or as set forth in more detail in the following description.
The invention is embodied in the example illustrated in the accompanying drawing and described in the following specification.

'Ihe cross bar members are made of right angled T-bars preferably of rolled steel of equal cross section. One of these members, as illustrated in Fig. 2 is cut, punched or formed with a slit or notch 6 of a width about equal to thethickness of the web which bisects the head portion of the T-bar, one edge forming said notch being left with a tongue 7. Before application the bar is flexed at the notch sufficiently to' open the same so that the head thereof can be placed over the web of another bar as hereinafter ex lained.
iIhe other cross bar, also of T-form and of the same cross sectional dimensions as the first bar, is rolled or otherwise, wrought to form seats 8 in the opposite sides of the head portion, its web being perforated at 9 to receive the tongue 7 andsnotched at 10 to receive the small connecting portion 11 of the web of the bar shown in Fig. 2. The seats '8' are made. of a depth' ibout equal to the thickness of the head ofithe T-bar. In practice the bar, as shown in Fig. 2, is
placed down upon the bar, as shown in Fig.
3, so that the connecting portion 11 shall enter the notch 10 and upon the depression of the ends of the bar containing said portion 11,the tongue Tenters the perforation 10 and the adjacent ends of' the T-portion enter the seats 8 on opposite sides of the web.
The outer frame bars are provided with seats 12 and perforations 13 and the extremities of the cross bars are provided with tongues, as at 14. to enter said perforations 13 after which they are riveted as shown at 15.
The outer frame bars are shown as of l.- form. rIhe depression of the seats in these bars to receive the ends of the heads of the cross bars permits the provision of supports that are eac-h even or in one plane all around for the glass pane.
I have shown a frame for the reception of four lights of glass only but obviously the joints `and lights can be indefinitely multilied. p The form and proportions of the parts can in many respects be varied without departing from the gist of the invention as claimed.
What I claim is- 1. A; joint including, in combination, a cross bar of angle form havinga transverse slit in its head and web portions, and a second or interlocking cross bar having a bent and depressed head portion to form a seat to receive by superposition the head portion of the first mentioned bar at said slit.
2. A joint including, in combination. a cross bar of angie form slit in its head and web portions and provided with a tongue 7 and a second or interlocking cross bar having a bent and)l depressed head portion to form a seat to receive by superposition the head portion of the first mentioned bar, and provided with a perforation to receive said tongue.
3. A joint including, in combination, a bar of angle form having a transverse slit eX- tending through its head and a orton of its web, and a second or interloc ing cross lbar having a notch in the edge of its web to receive the remaining portion of the web be- Vond at the aforesaid slit, and a depression in the web portion to forni a seat to receive by superposition the web at the end of the slit of the first mentioned bar.
