Description

T. J. TRAPP.
lmprovement in Bag-Holder-s.- 130,547.
Pafented Aug. T3, 1872 UNI'IED STA'IES PATENT OFFICE. 4
THOMAS J. TRAPP, OF WILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA. 7
IMPROVEMENT IN BAG*HOLDERS.
Speeification forming parl; of Letters Patent N0. 1305 27, dated August 13, 1872.
with 21 shank tapering 011 the rear side, so as 10 throw the mout-h of bag 011 21 decline toward the frono, and with 2111 auxiliary stemguide; in providing the jointed a-rms With edge flanges, so thi1t one arm ma-y slide within the ooher, und with raehet and pawl 150 holdthem ab differen degrees 0f expansion; and in providing tl1e pawl with 21 flanged holder that raises from 2111d lets down the pawl into ratchet.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is 21 sectional and Fig. 2 21 front eleva-tion, sl1owing 1ny im provemeno. Fig. 3 is 21 decz1il top view 01' the hagholder.
A represents the frzune, desoribed in the patent referred t0, eontaining 21 platform operated by a treadle to shake the bag, and the slotted stand 21rd a, 130 which the bag-holder is attached. Bis a. bag-holder, with jointed 2111d extensible arms I1 11 and rear plate Ifi. C is tha.b part of the bag-holder whioh abuts against the face of Standard, and whioh 111ay be 21 block 01 hollow sha11k, oast or otherwise a-ttaohed t0 the rear thereof. This sl1ank projects 011 top 2113 21 maxi1num extent 110111 bag-holder, and lessens its distance threfrom gradually toward the lower end. lhis downward taper of the shank O gives a slighb forward deoline to the bag-holder, so that the mouth of the bag will be lower 111 front tha.n 011 'nhe opposite side. 'lhis very considerably faoilitates the operation of pouring in the grain from 21 measure or other vessel. 0 0 are t-l1e clamp-screw a.nd nut, by whieh the holder is fastened t0 the standard; and 0 a guide-stern that works 111 slot of standard. 'lhe arms b 12 and rear plafce Z) are turned up 011 eaoh edge of the 0111:- side, so as t0 form 21 channel, D. This channel is narrower 011 one arm, b, than 011 the 0ther, in order thao the flanges d d of one arm may fit snugly within the flanges d d of the otaher arm. These two flanges thus eonjointly keep the armS together, and at the s21111e time form a guide to ea0l1, while the upper fiange Y serves 130 hold the edge of bag when turned over it. The arm b is provided with amtohet,
"E, near tho lower part of a recess, b while the arm b} has 21 loosely-pivoted pawl, F, that i! works in the ratchet and holds the mouth of bag .stretched, whatever may be the W1dth or size of bag. The arm b is also prov1ded w1th 21 pivioted plate, G, having two veri ;ioal flanges, g g, between which the pawl F 1s held and prevented from lateral movement, wlnle Joy turning said plate G a quarter 0f 21 revolut1on the pawl may be lifted and held up from the ratohet. H is 21 latch, wl1ich holds the arms together.
The application is as follows: The screw 0 am]. guide c being insert-ed in slot of shandard, the 1111t 0 is turned by its handle unt1l the bang-holder is firmly atoaohed to the standard. The bz1g is then put up through the inner part of holder, 2111d its edges turned over the to p fianges. The arms are 110W expanded unt1l the mouth of the bag is stretohed and held tight on ehe holder, while the pawl and ratohet ma.intain them 2111 any degree of expansion that the bag will allow. 011 2100011111: of the taper 011 the rear side of shauk C, the mouth of bag inelines forward toward the bagger, 2111d allows tl1e ba-g to be filled with ease and oonvenience. As soon as it ha-s reoeived the quantity of grain desired, the plate G is turned ab 21 right angle to the pawl and lifts it from the ratohe, while the lateh H is turned ofl' so as to unclamp the arins. The bag is then taken readily from the holder.
Having thus desoribed my invention, what I olaim as new, 21m1 desire 130 secure by Letters Patent, is
l. 'lhe rear tapered shzmk O, combined with a ba-g-holder, as and for the purpose sei: forth.
2. The shz1nk O, guide-sten1 o a11d olzunpsorew c combined Wil3h 21 bag-holder, a-s am]. for the the purpose desoribed.
3. A bag-holder, prwided with hinged and ehanneled arms b b, that spread to any desired degree, to hold the bag thereto tightly, after being entered 011 the inside, as deseribed.
4. The ratchet E 21ml pswl F, oombined wioh the hinged arms b b of bz1g-holder, as and for the purpose set forth.
5. The comb'rnation, With pawl, 0f the pivoted plate Ghavingflanges gg, between whieh the pawl is received, as a11d for the purpose sei: forth.
