IMPROVEMENT IN TICKET AND PENCIL HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,535, dated August 13, 1872.
being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this lspecification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a metallic plate cut in proper shape to be formed into ticket and pencil holder. Fig. 2 is a face View of device complete. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal central section.
This invention has relation to a ticket and pencil holder; and consists of a device which may be pinned to the garment of the wearer,
` and which is adapted to hold a pencil or a pen, and also a card, programme, or the like, as hereinafter described.
In the construction of this device I cut from a thin sheet of brass, white metal, or other suitable material, a piece similar to that shown in Fig.1 of the drawing. The body of this piece is marked A, and is of a rectangular form. From the ends ot' the same a long tongue, B, protrudes. On each side of said tongue the metal of the part A is cut lengthwise so as to produce smaller tongues b b. At C is formed a slot terminating at the end of tongue c, produced by continuing the sides of the slot toward the base of the tongue B, as shown. After shaping the metal plate as shown, I curl the tongues b back over the face of the part Ato form rings of a size suiicient to hold an ordinary lead-pencil. I next bend back the tongue c and make it coincide, as nearly as possible, with the rings, and then bend back the tongue B, producing a shoulder which shall encircle the bent tongue c. I pass the tongue B through the slot fC to the back part ofthe plate A, and thence extend it along as a cover to the slot, and form on its end a hook, d, with a flanged point. In its arrangement the tongue B constitutes a springclasp, which will hold a ticket or the like between it and the back ofthe plate A, so as to allow it to be exposed to View. The pencil is held in the socket formed by the curling ot' the tongues B b c by their elasticity. D de.. notes a pin, which is secured to the pencilsocket and extends to the keeper d. This pin is used for the purpose of attaching the device to the garment of the wearer. The hook keeps'
