A TTOR/VEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. j
JACK R. BOLTON AND JOHN 1);wILLIAMs, or sULPHnR SPRINGS, AND FELIX L. STBUVE,
' or GREENVILLE, TEXAS.
LEMON nn LIME'SQUEEZER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JACK R. BOLTON and JOHN D. WILLIAMS, residing at Sulphur Springs, in the county of Hopkins and State of Texas, and FELIX L. STRUVE, residing at Greenville, in the county of Hunt and State of Texas, all citizens of the United States, have made certain new and useful Improve: ments in Lemon and Lime .Squ'eezers, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention is animprovement in lemon and lime squeezers and has for its object to provide a device of the character specified, by means of which a lemon, lime or the like may be halved, and the halves squeezed in succession, or one half may be left unsqueezed.
In the drawings V Figure 1 is a perspective squeezer open, and
Fig. 2 is a transverse section at the squeezing recess.
In the present embodiment of the invention, two handle portions are provided, each consisting of a plate 1 and 2, respectively, and the said plates are hinged together at one end by straps 3 which permit the plates to lie one upon the other, or to be opened into a position somewhat greater than a right angle with respect to each other.
Each section has a handle 4 and 5 respectively, and the section 25 is sectional in a manner to be presently described. The section 1 of the squeezer has on the inner face thereof a substantially circularrecess 6, and a diametrical opening 7 at the recess extends through the plate or section.
The plate or section has openings 8 in the recess, to permit the juice of the fruit to pass out into a receptacle, and the section 2 has a movable portion 9 which extends over approximately half the width of the section and somewhat more than half the length, and is pivoted to the body of the plate or section as indicated at 10.
This portion may swing with respect to the body of the section into either a position where it is in the same plane with said body portion, or in the position such that it is inclined with respect thereto.
A blade 11 is secured to the body portion of the section 2 between the same and the movable portion 9, in such position that when the plates 1, 4;, and 2-5 are closed in view at t e Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 3, 1919, Application filed October 16, 1918. Serial No. 258,423.
superposition, the blade will extend through the slot or passage 7 before mentioned.
On each side of the blade 11 a protuber ance 12-13 is provided, the protuberance 12 being upon the movable portion 9, while the protuberance 13 is upon the body of the section or plate 1. i
In operation the fruit to be squeezed, as for instance, a lime is laid within the recess 8 with the section 2 and the movable. portion being lifted to permit the insertion of the fruit. The handle sections are now moved toward each other, and it will be evident that the blade will halve the fruit, while at the same time the protuberance 13 will squeeze that half onv that side of the blade. The other half may then be squeezed by the movable ,portion9, the said portion being moveduntil it 'is in the plane of the 'plateQ "of which it is a part. If desired, both halves of the fruit may be squeezed simultaneously during the cutting operation, by merely holding the element 9 in the plane of the blade 2 during the cutting operation.
\Ve claim '1. A device of the character specified, comprising a pair of plates hinged together at one end to fold one upon the other or into a position at approximately a right angle with respect to each other, each having at the free end a grip, one plate having a squeezing recess in its inner face provided with openings and with a diametrical slot extending through the plate, the other plate being divided longitudinally at approximately its central line to form a movable portion hinged to the body portion of the plate, the body portion of the plate carrying a blade adapted to engage and enter the slot, and squeezing protuberances on each side of the blade, one of said protuberances being secured to the movable portion of the blade, and the said portion being mounted to swing away from the other plate to permit the portions of the out fruit to squeeze simultaneously or in succession.
2. A device of the character specified, comprising a pair of plates hinged together at one end to fold one upon the other or into a position at approximately a right angle with respect to each other, each having at the free end a grip, one plate having a squeezing recess in its face extending through the plate, the other plate being divided longitudinally at approximately its central line to form a movable portion hinged to the body portion of the plate, the body portion of the plate carrying a blade adapted to engage and enter the slot, and squeezing protuberances on each side of the blade.
3. A device of the character specified, comprising a pair of plates hinged together at one end, one of the said plates having a recess and a diametrical slot at the recess, the other carrying a blade and adapted to engage the slot, and squeezing protuberances on the last named plate at one side of the blade, that portion of the plate on the opposite side of the blade being hinged to the plate to swing away from the plate having the recess, and the said movable portion carrying a squeezing protuberance.
4. A device of the character specified, comprising a pair of plates hinged together at one end, one of the plates having a recess for receiving a fruit to be squeezed, the other having a blade for cutting the fruit when the plates are moved together, the first named plate having a slot extending approximately diametrical to the recess for receiving the blade, and the last named plate having a movable portion on one side of the blade, said portion and the plate carrying squeezing protuberances on the opposite sides of the blade.
' 5. In a device of the character specified, a plate having a recess for a lemon or lime, a second plate cooperating with the first 7 plate and having a blade for halving the lemon, and having squeezing protuberances on opposite sides of the blade, one of said protuberances being movable with respect to the other to permit half the lemon to be squeezed.
6. In a device of the character specified, a plate upon which the lime or. lemon is adapted to rest, a second plate cooperating with the first plate and having a blade for halving the lemon or lime and having squeezing protuberances on opposite sides of the blade, one of the protuberances being movable with respect to the other to permit half the lemon or lime to be squeezed.
