To all whom it may concern f Be it known that I, SELAH B. MASTEN, of New York, in the county of New York, and in the State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Concrete-Clips, and do hereby declare that ened concrete and prevent it from breaking away from the reinforcement, particularly at corners or where the layer is thin or not well supported by irregular surfaces, additional reinforcing means is desirable. My invention relates to such additional reinforcing means and has for its object t0 provide a concrete clip or reinforcing device which is inexpensive to manufacture and which has advantages in use not attained in other forms of reinforcing devices. Other and further objects of my invention will be apparent from the following description thereof.
For purposes of illustration, various embodiments of my invention are shown as applied to a standard I beam, but it is to be understood that each embodiment shown may comprise so far as applicable any features of the other embodiments in the same or in different relation, and that the clips may be applied to any reinforcement to be covered with concrete Where additional reinforcing or supporting means may be utilized to advantage. As a series of clips are secured to each beam, they commonly are secured to a long wire termed a separator, in order to insure that they will be spaced or separated evenly and correctly. It is an object of my invention to improve the various features of these clips, whether strung on a separator or used singly. y
Reference is made to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a completed concrete structure in dot and dash outline, with an end elevation of a series of standard I beams therein, on each of which beams is attached an embodiment of my inventlon, and v Fig. 2 a perspective view of a standard I beam with a series of one embodiment of my invention applied thereto.

The clips may be of any material and stamped, molded, or bent to shape. The drawings illustrate a simple and satisfactory method of manufacture, in which the clip is formed of wire, bent to shape. The clips may be secured to the separator by welding, soldering, weaving, or tying, or in any otherdesired manner. It will be noted that the separator is secured to the clip in such a manner as to be adjacent thereinforcement to which the clip is secured, so that the separator will not interfere with the free flow of concrete around the reinforcement, or be liable to be displaced during any tamping or spading necessary to force the concrete in place in the form or mold.
Reference character B indicates a standard I beam to the bottom flange of which is secured a concrete clip comprising a bottom member 1, having extensions 2, and securing means 3. In the embodiment illustrated, member 1 comprises a straight Wire, extensions 2 are formed by bending the wire in the shape of an eye,land Securing means 3 comprise the ends of the wire which are adapted to be bent around the flange of the beam to hold the clip in place. In this embodiment it will be noted that the projections 2 are so located as to be outside of and below the flange of the I beam, to which it is attached. This places extension 2 adjacent the surface of the concrete, particularly at the corners where supporting Strength is desirable, lthus affording maximum support to the concrete surrounding the beam. If desired, the clips may be se-` cured to a separator 4, which is shown in this embodiment secured on the top and aproximately at the center of bottom memer 1.

Man modifications will be apparent to those sliilled in the art, my invention not being limited to the particular embodiments disclosed to illustrate my invention, but comprising simple and inexpensive means to furnish support for the concrete in such a manner as to give maximum su port, and adapted to permit the free flow ol) concrete into the' mold or form without liability of derangement during the tamping or spading operation. The separators, for example, may be used in the relation described, in connection with other forms of extensions. Haunch stiiieners, likewise, may be provided for the embodiments applied to I beams B, B', and B2, and haunc stieners may be omitted from the embodiments applied to I beams B3 and B* and any desired form of securing means substituted as, for instance, the securing means shown in the embodiment applied toIbeamsB,B' and B2. p
Having1 d my invention, what I claim an desire to protect by Letters Pat'- ent of the United States is as follows:
1. 4. A series of concrete clips comprising securing means, extensions, and a longitudinally extending separator and tie rod connecting said clips and arranged to lie adjacent `and be partly supported against upward movement by the part to which the Y clips are attached when in assembled relatlon.
5. A concrete clip having means for securing the same to the member to be concreted, extensions for said clip having their upper portions adjacent said member when in assembled position, and a longitudinally extendin separator and tie rod secured,` to said clip adjacent said extensions with the top thereof in substantial] the same horizontal plane as the top of saidl extensions.
6. A concrete clip comprising extensions, securin means, and means which is bent upwar y to lie adjacent the part to which the clip is attached for connecting said extensions, and a longitudinally extending separator and tie rod at the juncture of said upwardly bent portion` and said part and carried by the same. f

A series of concrete clips comprisi securing means, extensions, and a longitudinally extending separator and tie rod for said clips adapted to lie adjacent the part tol which the clips are attached and near the center thereof, whereby the formation of air pockets between said separator and said part upon the application of concrete is prevented.
12. A series of concrete clips comprising securing means, extensions, and longitudinally extending separators and tie rods for said clips adapted to lie adjacent the part to which the clips are attached and near the center and near the outer edge thereof, whereby the formation of air pockets between said separators and said part upon the application of concrete is prevented.
