IMPROVEMENT IN SAND-PAPERING MACHlNES.
Specication forming part of Leiters Patent No. 130,420, dated August 13, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Sand-Papering Machines, invented by ORRA I. FOSTER, of Salem, in the county of Rockingham and State of New Hampshire. l
My invention consists of an arrangement of the fan-blower for carrying the dust away, in connection with the shaft of the sand-paper cylinder, in such manner that the machine may be made cheaper and run with less power than as heretofore made.
Figure lis a horizontal section of my improved machine. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation taken on the line x of Fig. l.; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of a modified form of fan-blower that may be used.

Arepresents the sand-papering cylinder; B, the driving-wheel; and C, the hood of an Ordinary sand-paperin g machine, to which a fanblower, for drawing the dust away from the Operator and conducting it away, has heretofore been applied, being operated by means of a countershaft and belt, which I have found may be dispensed with by having a prolongation, D, ofthe sand-paper cylinder, or its shaft, within a suitable fan-case, E, and applying the fan-blades F directly thereto, as shown in the drawing.
