SANDPAPERING-NIACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 782,245, dated February 14, 1905.
Application filed September 13, 1904. Serial No. 224,303.
Tf) (L' who/)1) 'it Ymuy concern:
Be it known that l, (ios'rav HnnnimNN, a citizen of the United States, residing` atliort Smith, in the county of Sebastian and State of Arkansas, have invented new and useful Improvements 1n Sandpapering-hlachmes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved sandpaperingmachine, and 1s so constructed and arranged as to facilitate the operation of sandpapering articles of wood either curved or straight.
The object of my invention is to provide a machine Yfor sandpapering round -molded woodwork of all kinds, the special Yfeature being that itwill do inside work as well as outside, such as circular or oval frames, &c.
Referringto the accompanyingl drawings, in which like numbers indicate corresponiling parts in each of the several views, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved sandpapering-machine looking from the southeast corner of the sheet. Fig. i). is also a perspective view looking from the southwest corner of the sheet. Fig. 3 is a detail vertical sectional view showing; how the sandpaperbelt works around the half-circle mold and conforms itself to the shape of said mold.
ln said drawings, indicates the sandpaperbelt conformingl itself to the shape of the half-circle mold. The piece of work is placed on the table, and by removing,` the said l sandpzuier-belt from pulley the work may be moved under the belt. Said belt when replaced on said pulley is ready for work. c c represent ,lrive-pulleys Vfor said sand-belt.
is a foot-treadle havingl pivoted to one end the lower end of a rod Y while the upper end, di, of said rod is pivoted to the bearing beam z in the upper end of the bearing' f,
means of a weight w. Placed on each side of my sandpapering'anachine and directly opposite each other (see Fig'. E) are two rollers ff, which act as guides for said sandpaperbelt while the stock ismoved alonel being'sandpapered.
/r/l representtwo pulleys bymcans of which my machine is driven. A
'llhus it will he seen that my machine is of simple construction, can be readily and easily operated and adapted to do inside work as well as outside, such as circular or oval frames, &c.
Havingl described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-l l. The combination in a sandpaperingma chine, having,l a belt n, which conforms itself to the shape of the wooden piece to he operated on, of a pulley so constructed as to allow the sand-belt to be removed therefrom, while placing` said sand-belt over the work to be operated on; two sand-belt drive-pulleys c a; a foot-treadle by which pressure can be released at will on work being?)l sand papered, the pressure on said work being,v regulated hy a weight ff: two rollers ff, placed on each side of opening of machine to act as guides for the sand-belt, and two pulleys /f, hy means of which the machine is driven, sul)- stantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
A sandpapering-machine, consisting of a covered frame; two sand-belt drive-pulleys c, journaled in the lower part of said frame; two drive-pulleys secured on the same shafts with said pulleys last mentioned; a heal-iney f, secured to said framework; a bearing-beam r, pivoted in the upper end of said bearing; a samlpaper-belt pulley jourthe lower end of which bearingl is firmly seg cured to the framework at "of the machme,
by means of which pressure can be instantly released at will of the operator, so that the i the uniformity or bearing` of the sandpaper on said wooden piece being' regulated by naled in one end of said bearing-beam immediately over said sandpaper-belt pulleys; a sandpaper-belt, working over the pulley the pulleys c c, and over the material to be sandpzwered; a weight w, hanging, on one end of the bearing-imam d, and adapted to be moved backward and forward, thereby regulating the tension of the said belt; a foottreadle CZ, pivoted to the lower part of the l In testimony whereoflafix my signature in seid frame, and a rod having its lower end CZ, presence ot' two subscribing witnesses. pivoter] to one end of said treadle, and its GUSTAV HERRMANN upper end to said bearing-beam (Z3, said treadle l adapted to relieve the tension on said sandbelt, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
