GEORGE H. MoFEATERS, OF JQI-INSTOWN, PENN SYLVAN 1A.
PIPE-HANGER .i
inname.
Specification of Letters xatent. j
patented May iafieie.
.Application led December 23, 1918i. Serial No. 267,906.
To" all whom t may concern;
Be it known that I, GEORGE MolFnA'rERs, .a citizen of the AUnited States, residing at Johnstown,l in the county of Camt bria and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pipe-Hangers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference j being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of thisV specification, in which-- l Figure 1 is asectional elevation showing one form of my improved pipe` hanger.
Fig 2, is a plan view of the saine. ltigs. t), and ,4 are perspective views ofthe jaw members shown in Figs. l and2.
Figs 5 and 6 are views similar, respectively, to litige. i and 2, but showing a modilied form of the hanger, and` lEigs. Z and 8 are plan views of the jaw members shown in Figs. 5 and 6.
My invention has relation to pipe hangers and is Adesigned-to provide a simple, convenientand ecient form of hanger, more particularly adapted for supporting pipes from the frame 'members of factory or mill buildings. My invention provides a hanger of this character which can be manufactured at a relatively small cost,.which can be readily and quickly. applied 4and removed,
and which is capable of use inga number of l I ported extends at right'angles to the direcdierent positions.
The nature of myinvention will be best understood by reference .to the 'accompanying drawings Ain which li have'shbwn two embodiments of my invention and which will nowbe described, it being premised,
however, that my invention is susceptible to other embodiments and that various changes can be made in the details of construction,
arrangement and combination of the parts' without departing'fromthe spirit and scope of my invention,- as defined in the appended lclaims.
Referring first to that form of my inven # members 2 and 3. rlihemember 2at one end has a portion formed with a concave t0 form a jaw 6. A The member 3 is formed with a concaved portion 7 opposite the conv au cave portionjof the first named jaw men ber.. and adapted to embrace the opposite inner face 4: adapted to, embrace the pipe 5- sid`e of the pipe 5, and at its other end is formed with a'transversejaw 8 substantially parallel. with the jaw 6. 9 is a set-screw seated in the jaw ,L6 and adapted to be screwed into engagement with a flange of a supporting beam 10. 11 is a clamping bolt which connects the two jaw members and whichcan be tightened to.. firmly clamp the p1pe5. The jaw member 2 isshown as.hav ing an' inward .projection 12 on its inner face to abut the inner face of the jaw r`nember 3; and theinner end lof the jaw 8 is shown asv adapted to abut against the inner face of the jaw, member l2. The bolt`11 is seated between lthe' jaw 8 and the projection 12.
lthwill be ,readily seen that the hangeri canbe quickly applied to' any frame member of a mill building, adjacent to which it is desired to carry a pipe; that said frame member may extend either vertically, horizontally, or at any other angle; and that the hanger .can be applied. to any projecting lflange of such member whether said flange be horizontal, vertical or obli ue. With this form of clamp, the pipe whic is supported b y theh'anger. will always extendsubstam tially parallel tothe' direction of the sup- In -5, 6, 7 i and 8l have shown a modification in which the pipe 5a to be suption ofthe. support 10a. This form of my invention is' substantially lthe same as that first described, except that the jaw portions '4&1 and 7 whichengage theypipes 5, are
form of my 4invention there is `also no bracing projection'between thev jaws adjacent to the clamping `bolt 11a. j i
'The advantages of my invention will be readily lapparent to 'those familiar with devices oi" this character, since it provides a simple and conv nient form` of hanger for Stringing pipes a out a factory or mill building, and one whichcan be lquicklyv applied and removed.
I claim: l A
1. A pipe hanger comprising members which together form one pair ofrelativelv fixed jaws to engage a support and another pair of movable jaws to engage a pipe, substantially asdescribed.
2. A pipe hanger comprising members I which together lform one pair of relatively fixed jaws to engage a Support and another A pair of movable jaws to engage a pipe, to-
gether with clamping means carried by each pair of jaws, substantially as described.
3. A"pipe hanger, 'comprising two co.
operating members which together form one pair of jaws to engage a support and another pair of jaws te engage a pipe, each pair of jaws havingv separate clamping means, substantially as described. i
operating members which together-form one pair of jaws to engage a support and another pair O jaws to engage a ppe,`eacn j pair of jawshaving separate clamping means, said' members having abutting projections, substantially as described.
5` A lpipe hanger, comprising members which together form one pair of jaws to engage a support, and anotherpair of jaws to engage a pipe, a clamping screw extending through one of the jaw `members of the first pair, and a clamping screw extending through both members of tlie second i 'l pair of jaws, substantially as described. 4, A` pipe hanger, comprising two co- In testimony whereof, I have Vhereunto g set my hand.
