UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT wALxER, OE SAVANNAH, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT |N PLows.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,256, dated August 6, 1872.'
Specification describing a certain Improvement in Wheel-Flows, invented by ROBERT WALKER, of Savannah, in the county of Andrew and State of Missouri.
This invention relates to a combination of the frame which supports a set of shovelplows used for cultivating with the tongue by means of which said frame is drawn, when said tongue is pivoted to the axle, and provided with a sliding bolt, by means ofl which its rear end may be fastened to the rear side of the frame or disconnected therefrom, so that, when disconnected from the tongue, the frame may be turned upward so as to raise the plows.
Figure lis atop view, and Fig. 2 is a lon gitudinal vertical section.
A is the axle aforesaid, the same forming the front part of the frame. B is the tongue, the same being furnished with bars a, the front ends of which are attached to opposite sides of the tongue at c, while their rear ends are hooked into eyes d driven into the front side Of the axle A. A cross-bar, e, runs from one vof the bars a to the other beneath the tongue B, so as to strengthen the bars whichv a slot in the tongue, is pivoted therein, and,
at its lower end, is linked with the front extremity of a bolt, l, which is supported in sockets l fastened to the under side of the tongue B. This bolt is bent upward at the point m, and passes through a mortise inthe rear end of the tongue B, and is again bent at fm', and extends thence backward. When the end of the tongue is in contact with the catch h, by moving the levert forward the bolt Z can be made to pass through an orifice made for the purpose in the catch h and bear on the top of the beam C, thus preventing the end of the tongue from falling. When the bolt l is detached from the beam C, by moving the lever t' backward the beam can be raised above the tongue and thus elevate the plows, as it is desirable to do when turning at the ends of rows. The two inner plow-stocksn n are bolted to crossbars o, which rotate in the frame A C. The Stocks fnJ have stirrups r fastened to their inner sides, by means of which the driver can, with his feet, move the plows toward or away from the rows 4at pleasure.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the tongue B, lever t, bolt l, catch h, and frame A G, arranged as specified.
ROBERT WALKER.
