Description

P. SAVAGE.
Improvement in Drill-Holders for Rock-Drilling Machines.
No. 130,246, I Patented Aug. 6,1872,
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIOE.
PETER SAVAGE, OF ADAMS, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRILL-HOLDERS FOR RCCK-DRILLING MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER SAVAGE, of Adams, in the county of Berkshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in DrilLOhucks;
and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective, view of my drill-chuck, and Fig. 2 is a detached View v of the same.
The object of my invention is to hold the drills of rock-drilling machines, or to be used ception of the drill B. Into recesses or cavi= ties a a on the sides of the head are inserted two straps, O C, Fig. 1, upon the inner sides of which are lugs b I), provided with V-shaped grooves c c, Fig. 2, which clasp the drill and hold it firmly in its place. These straps are fastened to the head by means of bolts D D and nuts (1 d, as fully shown in Fig. 1.
It will be observed that by constructing the head of one solid piece it is not subject to any breakage caused by the bearing upon the drill.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The straps G 0 formed with lugs 11 I), said lugs being provided with V-shaped grooves c, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the straps O 0, head A, bolts D D, and nuts d d, all constructed and arranged substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
Witnesses: PETER SAVAGE.
