To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN F. ZINK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Allegany, in the county of Cattaraugus and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gun-Racks, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has for its object to provide an improved and portable gun rack equipped with a flanged retaining plate constituting a guard preventing accidental displacement of the guns mounted in the rack and operable by a foot lever of such design as to afford suflicient leverage to lift the plate to inoperative position against considerable resistance and thus afford a con venient and efiective means for quickly rendering the guns accessible.

Another object is the provision of means associated with the retaining plate to positively lock the latter against movement and prevent removal of the guns.

With the above and other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of elements which will be more fully described in the following specification and then set forth with particularity in the claims appended hereto.

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates a portable base or supporting plate preferably of circular formation and provided with a series of radially disposed recesses 6 arranged in a circular series of such size and shape as to accommodate the butts of guns 7. For convenience, when transporting the gun rack,

the plate 5 is preferably mounted upon casters Abraced standard 9 is secured centrally of the plate 5 and extends vertically therefrom and constitutes a support for the hook plate 10 which is provided with a series of peripheral recesses to accommodate the barrels of the guns 7 and is rigidly secured against longitudinal movement upon the standard 9.

Guide rods 11 provided with angular lower terminals 12 are rigidly secured on top of the holder plate 10 and adjustably support a retaining plate 13 which is formed with a central aperture receiving the guide rods 11. The upper terminals of the rods 11 are directed outwardly in opposite directions as indicated at 14; to prevent accidental removal of the retaining plate 13 and the latter is provided with a depending flange 15 which, when the retaining plate is in its lowermost position, overlies the holder plate 10 and the barrels of the guns 7 to prevent unauthorized removal of the latter.

A foot lever 16 is pivotally secured at 17 in a bracket 18 attached adjacent the lower end of the standard 9 and is so arranged as to project between the guns mounted in the recesses 6 into such position as to be conveniently engaged by the foot. The inner terminal of the lever extends into a substantially T-shaped opening 19 formed in the lower portion of the standard and a pin 20 is secured to the lever within one portion of the opening. Connecting rods 21 are attached at their lower ends to the pin 20, extend upwardly therefrom through the plates 10 and 13 and are provided with angular upper terminals 22 rigidly secured by screws or any other suitable fastening means 23 to the retaining plate 13 whereby the movement of the lever 16 is imparted thereto. The extreme ends of the rods 21 are extended in contact with the opposed side faces of the rods 11 and are apertured as indicated at 24:. In the alternate positions of the retaining plate 13 the apertures 24 register with spaced apertures 25 and 26 formed in the guide rods 11 and the shackle of a pad lock 27 is designed for reception in the alined apertures in the connecting rods and brace rods to rigidly maintain the retaining plate in desired position.

When it is desired to provide free access to the guns mounted in the rack, the foot lever 16 is actuated so as to elevate the ,re':

However, should it be desired to prevent the removal ,of the guns byunauthorized persons,the retaining plate 13 is lowered to such position that the flange 15 overlies the barrels of the guns 7 preventing removal of the'latter from the rack and the plate is locked in ope ative position by passing the shackle of the pad look through the alined apertures 24 and 26 and subsequently lookingthe pad look.

What I claim is:

1. A gun rack including a recessed base plate, a recessed holder plate arranged thereover, a retaining plate provided with a depending fiange adapted to overlie the recessed holder plate and prevent unauthorized removal of guns from the rack, a foot lever,
