To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM S. Enwanns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Long Beach, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Tooth-Brush, of which the following is a specification." Y
This invention relates to tooth brushes, one of its objects being to provide a brush the head of which is adapted to be rotated by a motor" contained within the handle of the brush, there bein simple and eflicient means constantly un er the control of the user for stopping and "starting the operation of the head.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which is simple and compact in construction and can be handled easily.
With the foregoing and other objects'in view which will appear as' the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made Within the scope of what is claimed, without de arting from the spirit of the invention.

A frust'oconical collar 18 is secured to and rotates Wlth the shaft 13 and is surrounded by a ring 19 having a pivot opening into which the collar pro ects. The ring 19 is hingedly connected to the casing 1 as shown at 20 and a sprlng 21 connects the casing to the opposed portion of the ring so as to pull the ring normally against the collar 18. A stud 22 extends from the ring and through a slot 1n the casing 1 and is provided with a button 23 whereby the ring 19 can be pushed out of contact with the collar 18 and against the action of the spring 21.
If desired the tank 16 can be provided with a covering 24 of a soft material which will not injure the teeth if brought into contact therewith.
In using the device the spring of the motor is wound in the manner described, gears 12, 11, 9 and 7 being held against rotation by the frictional engagement. of the ring 19 with the collar 18. When-it is desired to use the brush the button 23 is pushed longitudinally so as to swing the ring away from the collar 18. Shaft 13 is thus released and will be rotated by the spring of the motor. The rotation of the brush will be at hi h speed and whenever it is desired to stop t e brush, the user releases button 23. This causes spring. 21 to apply the ring 19 to the collar 18 so as to stoyithe shaft. Obviously brushes of different s a es can be used and, if desired, polishing di may also be used. The shanks of the diflerent devices can be readily connected to and disconnected from the couplirr sleeve 14.
