Description

im@ srATESrATjENT FRED s. CARR, orJNEW'roN,MASSACHUSETTS, Assienon To .CARR rAsarnunnQ;
'ooivirANic yorv CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION or MAINE.
i sEiARABLE rAsTriNER. y
y Newton, 'in the county of Middlesex, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, (whose postv oiice address is care of Carr Fastener Coinpany, Cambridge, Massachusetts,) have invented an Improvement in Separable Fasteners, (BQ of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like characters on the drawings representing like parts.
' This invention pertains to improvements in separable fasteners, and more particulai'ly,v though not exclusively, to-fasteners in which a stud lenters a socket and is separable therefrom by relative tipping move- `ment of lstud and socket in one direction only.
In the drawings, whichshow a preferred form of one embodiment of my invention Figure l is a front elevation of a preferred form of socket having the stud en tered therein; l,
Fig. 2 isa section on the line 2 2 of Fig. l; and v Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. y y
In the preferred form of my invention selected for illustrati-ve purposes, I have shown a stud 4 having a head l5 presenting a neck 6 and arelatively abrupt shoulder7. Cooperating with the stud 4 I provide a socket, which preferably includes a front 'plate 8, and a rear plate 9, engaging between them a resilient jaw 10 below the stud` 4. The front plate 8 of the socketmay be died inwardly -at ll to engage behind the shoulder 7 of the stud. i
The socket may be secured to a curtain 1Q in any suitable way, typified by the prongs 13 passing through a clench-plate 14 in the usual manner. l secured to the curtain 1'5 by prongs l6passing through the cleiich-plate4` 17 in the usual manner.
' Whenv thea-stud is being entered in thel socket, the yielding jaw l0 springs downwai'dly until the fiXed jaw ll enters in the neck 6 of the stud andthe yielding jaw l() also enters in said neck.
The stud and socket.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Similarly. the stud may be cannot bc separated When, however, the lowerportioii of the socket is pulled outwardly, the shoulder 7 will 'ride over and pushdownwardly the yieldingjaw l0 becausethe depth ofthe shoulder is so proportioned that the rounded `surface only of the yielding jaw will be engaged by it. Pressure on this rounded surface will cause the yielding )aw to vield downwardly until the Jaw is entirely disengaged from the neck G. at which time suicient tipping movement has taken place so that the engagement of the shoulder by the fixed jaw ll will no longer be positive.
While I have shown and described a'preferred form of one embodiment of in v invention, it will be understood that major changes involif'ing omission, substitution, alteration and reversal ofv parts. and even changes in the mode of operatioinmav bel made without departing from the scope 'of my invention` which is best dened in the following claims.
Claims:
l. A stud and socket fastener comprising,
in lCombination, a stud having a head and a neck with an abrupt shoulder between` them, a socket having a resilient jaw round neck behind said shoulder, said neck being relatively shallow, whereby the edge of the head adjacent theshouldcr will engage au inwardly sloping rounded poi-tion ot' the rcsilient jaw.
2. A stud and socket fastener comprising. in combination. a stud having a head and a relatively shallow neck. with au ahi-apt shoulder between said head and neck. and
a socket having an un \'ieldiug jaw for vii-- gagenieiit behind said neck at om` .sido thoreof and a resilient jaw for engagement with said neck at1 the opposite side thereof. .said
