In the form of my invention shown in Fig. 1 the standard A of the lamp is so constructed that it serves as the horn of the sound reproducing machine, said standard being hollow-and provided at its lower end with a flared portion 4 that rests upon the table or structure on which the lamp is mounted. The reproducer arm E is connected with the hollow standard A of the lamp by means of a conduit 5, and the flared portion 4 of the standard is provided with openings 6 .of any preferred form or outline so as to permit the sound to escape from the horn formed by the standard A. One convenient way of constructing said shade is to form it in two parts, the lower part being secured to the plate 1, and the upper part B being connected to the plate 1 by a hinge 8 so asto permit said upper part B to be swung upwardly. If desired, an electric lamp bulb 9 can be arranged on the inner-side of the top portion B of the shade, so as to illuminate the turntable F of the sound reproducing machineduring the operation of applying or removing a record, and also illuminate the top portion of the shade if it is made of transparent or translucent material.

Electrical conductors 10 that supply current to the motor D are preferably led upwardly to the motor through the standard A of the lamp and branch conductors 11 are led from the supply conductors 10 tothe lighting units C and to the electric lamp bulb 9 in the top portion B of the shade. If desired, the top portion B of the shade can be provided with a ball, knob or projection 1250f any other desired form that serves as a handle for raising the top portion of the shade and also as an ornament for the shade.

A device of the character referred to, consisting of a lamp comprising a standard, a lighting unit carried by said standard, a supporting plate arranged adjacent the upper" end of said standard, a shade for said lamp comprising a lower portion connected to-said supporting plate and a hinged top portion carried by said plate, and a phonograph provided with a turntable'or record support that is arranged above said supporting plate and'whioh is normally hidden from view by the top portion of said shade.
