IMPROVEMENT IN EXTENSION SCAFFOLDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,978, dated July 30, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Extension Seaffolds, invented by ISAAC NOGGLE, of Butler, in the county of Montgomery and State of Illinois.
The object of this invention is to provide suitable and convenient means to enable masons and others to raise themselves to their work; and it consists in an extension framework constructed so as to be used as a sca'fiold or staging, as will be hereinafterdescribed.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is an elevation of the device, showing the parts put .together as when in use. Fig. 2 is an end view of the extension legs. Fig. 3 is a view of the rail detached.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Each of the legs, as well as the rail, is made in two parts, connected together by bands, so that they will slide in contact with each other.
A represents the legs or supports. Bis the parts of each are screwed. together, so that they may slide and be elongated. Two bands are employed for each leg, one band being attached to one piece and theother to the other piece. The two parts of the rail are confined each composed of two pieces, as described, are connected together near the top by a screwbolt, D, and also by a link, E, which latter cesses in the rail are cut on an incline, so that the legs stand bracing from the center, as seen in Fig. 1. I is a spring attached to one part of the leg, which enters recesses in the other part, as represented, which prevents the parts from slipping. This spring is'disengaged by pressing down on its end J. All the legs may be provided with this spring. The legs may be so adjusted that the rail B will stand on a level on uneven ground, as seen in Fig. l.
Havingthus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent An article of manufacture consisting of twopartbanded legs A 0, connected at top by screw-bolts so as to form slot F, the springs I J, the brace-rods E, and the banded two-part rail 13, having inclined recesses g, constructed and put together as and for the purpose described.
