IMPROVEMENT IN CORN-DRO'PPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,963, dated July 30, 1872; antcdated July 27, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN H. J UNKINS, of Upper Sandusky, in the county of Wyandot and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in (Jorn-Droppers and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure lof the drawing-is a representation of a plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same.
This invention has relation to corn-droppers; and the novelty consists in the general construction and arrangement of the parts of an implement designed to be carriedand operated by a person walking, and adapted to drop the grains of corn in proper quantities and at regular intervals, as hereinafter ,de-
scribed.
In the drawing, A represents a rectangular box, inclosing a hopper, B, having an opening at its lower-end for the seed-cylinder to pass through.- The cylinder 0 is journaled transversely to the box A below the hopper, its circumference passing through the opening in the hopper. The end of the shaft of thecyltheir ends touching the cylinder.
cylinder 0, for the purpose of receiving the corn to be planted. The upper part of said cup is cut away, as shown, so that the cup will.
implement is supported by a cord, 0, which is thrown over the shoulder of the operator, and is attached to rings d at either end of the box A. The ends of one-side of the box A are extended out at the top to form arms H H, the
former of which serves as a handle to be taken hold of with theright hand. A curved board, I,rests on the arm H and the adjacent end of the box, and is shaped to the form of the body, against which it rests. K indicates a brush, consisting of bristles secured by a cleat, L, This brush is intended to prevent the loss of grain by waste.
a What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved hand corn-planter having the box A, hopper B, waist-board I, seed-cylinder 0, brush K, crank D, blocks or stops d d, spout F, and cord e, all constructed and arranged substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
