Description

UNITED STATES I PATENT Damon.
STEPHEN MOORE, OF ROCHELLE, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF TWO-THIRDS HIS RIGHT TO M. I). HATHAWAY AND E. GARDNER, OF SAME PLACE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,257, dated May 27, 1873; application filed February 26, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHEN Moons, of fl with spout, and with a hopper having flues and slides, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing which forms a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal vertical sect-ion of my grainseparator.
A represents the fan-case, of any desired dimensions, supported upon suitable legs or other frame-work. Through the center of the fan-case passes a vertical shaft, B, upon which is secured the fan 0, revolving horizontally in the fan-case. On one side of the case A is formed a mouth or spout, D, opening downward, as shown, and on the other side of the case is an opening, a, in the top of the case. Over this opening is placed a box, E, held in position by hooks b b or other suitable means. The end of the box projects beyond the side of the case A, and extends downward a suitable distance, forming a hopper, H, and a flue, G, the partition between said hopper and flue being a slide, 1, which can be moved up and down at pleasure, so as to regulate the size of the passage 0' from the hopper to the The fan 0 being in motion, and the grain poured into the hopper H, the grain will go through the passage t into the flue G, and out at its lower end into a vessel or sack placed for its reception. The fan, creating a suction in the flue Gr, will draw all the foul stud and all the light substances up through the flue G and box E into the fan-case, and expel the same through the spout or mouth D.
A flexible or other conductor may be attached to thespout D, and the foul stuff carried 0E to any place desired.
In the top of the box E is a slide, J, by
means of which the draft can beregulated to clean any kind of grain.
The peculiar advantages of this machine is that it can easily be attached to machinery in flouring-mills; it takes out oats, small seeds,
and other substances from the grain in a H thorough and eflicient manner; it is cheap and durable.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of the horizontally-revolving fan 0 upon a vertical fan-shaft in the case A, in combination with the spout 1), box IE, hopper H, flue G, and slides I J, all constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of February, 1873.
his v STEPHEN +pMOORE.
mark. I y

J OHN J ONES.
