Description

H. BOHLINGER. PACKER ARM FOR GRAIN BINDBRS.
APPLICATION FILED NOV.6, 1911.
Patented Jun 11,1912.
COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH c0., WASHINGTON. D. C.
HENRY BOHLING-ER, 0F GILMANTON, WISCONSIN.
PAGKER-ARM FOR GRAIN-BINDERS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY BOHLINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gilmanton, in the county of Buffalo and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Packer- Arms for Grain-Binders, of which the fol lowing is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in grain binders and more particularly to packer arms therefor and has for its object to provide detachable bearings for said packer arm. It is a well known fact to users of grain binders that the first things to wear out on the packer arms are the bearings and the principal object of my invention is to provide detachable bearings that can be replaced with new oneswhen they become worn, thus saving the replacing of an entirely new packer arm.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved packer arm operatively mounted; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the packer arm.
Referring more particularly to the drawings 1 indicates the packer arm which is provided at its central portion with a de tachable boxing 2 bolted to the packer arm by means of the bolts 3. The packer arm 1 is mounted by means of the box on the crank shaft 4 which operates said packer arm.
A hearing sleeve 5 is mounted on the Specification of Letters latent.
Application filed November 6, 1911.

Serial No. 658,689.
lower end of the packer arm and formed integral therewith is a laterally extending boss 6 which is interiorly threaded as shown at 7 and adapted to be threaded onto the threaded end 8 of the packer arm. This bearing sleeve 5 is mounted on the link 9 which is pivotally mounted on the frame work of the binder.
From the above it will be seen that when the bearing sleeve 5 becomes worn by use it can be easily replaced by a new one, and the boxing 2 can also be replaced by a new one without having to replace a whole new packer arm as is the case with the grain binders in use at the present time.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportion may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope thereof.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
In a device of the character described, the combination with a packer arm having a threaded lower end, of a bearing sleeve, an internally threaded laterally extending boss formed integral with said sleeve and adapted to be threaded onto the lower end of the packer arm to detachably secure the bearing sleeve to said packer arm.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY BOI-ILINGER. WVitnesses:
LOUIS ZELLER, N10 HANSEN.
