ATTORNEY CARL H. BOLLER, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
VENTILATING WINDOW, LOUVEB, DOOR, AND THE Application filed January 16, 1917. Serial No. 142,757.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL H. BonLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ventilating Windows, Louvers, Doors, and the like, of which the following is a specification,
. This invention relates to ventilating windows, doors, louvers and the like and more especially to that classes of such structures comprising a frame having an opening controlled by an adjustable sash and protected by a. screen, and my object is to provide a construction in. which the sash is pivoted and the screen lies within the opening of the frame parallel with the sash when the latter is closed and bearing at all times an insectproof relation to the pivoted end of the sash, a construction of this type being desirable because, it is efficient, simple and inexpensive, can be. installed easily and quickly, conforms in appearance to ordinary screening and in which thescreen member is of light weight and therefore can be easily handled. 1
With this object in view the invention consists in certain novel and useful features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter described and claimed; and in order that it may be fully understood reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1, is an outer face view of a ventilating window or the like embodying my invention.
Fig. 2, is a vertical section of the same.
Fig. 3, is a similar section of the frame for holding the sashes and screen members.
. Fig. 4, is a fragmentary vertical section of a modified type of construction.
In the said drawing, 1 indicates a frame which may be the frame of an ordinary a house window or a frame set at any part of a building. where ventilation is desired, and said frame is rabbeted at its inner side to produce an inwardly facing shoulder 2 against which to secure a rectangular sash frame 3. This frame 3 is provided in the upper half of its inner face and in the lower half of its outer face with rabbets 4.
Fitting within said frame centrally of its length and journaled in any suitable manner in the sides thereof, is a rock shaft 5. For convenience the rock shaft is shown as hollow and having heads or ends 6 provided with trunnions 7 journaled in bearing openings formed conjointly in the sides of the frame 3 andremovable caps 8 as shown in Fig. The rock shaft constitutes the pivot of the window sash, the same comprising the sections 9 projecting diametrically from and of the same length as the body of the rock shaft, and filled by glass panes 10, if
the structure is to be used as a window. If it is to be used as a ventilator only, at a point where light is not an object, the sections 9 may be opaque, that is may consist simply of metal, wood or any other suitable material.
' The sections 9 are adapted to respectively fit snugly in-the opening of the rectangular frame 3 and each. of said sections is provided with flanges 11 to enter the rabbets of said frame 3 and by abutment against shaft 5 that the structure is insectand.
weather-proof at such oints. The special construction of the screen members 1s unimportant and has not therefore been described in detail, it being desirable to state however, that the rails at the inner ends of the screen frames are concaved slightly at their point of engagement with the rock shaftto insllilre a good weather-tight relation therewit 7 With a construction of the type described, it is obvious that the pivoted sash can be ad-' justed as desired without interference by the screens and that any part of the structure can be readily removed and replaced. It is also obvious that the structure possesses-the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the object of the invention, and, that it is susceptible of modification in minor particulars without departing from the principle of construction involved or from the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
I claim:---
A ventilating structure, comprising a suitable frame forming an opening and having an inwardly facin shoulder, a sash frame secured in said opening and against said shoulder and provided with rabbets in its opposite ends and faces, a rock shaft extending across said sash frame and journaled thereon, imperforate sash sections projecting from said rock shaft in opposite directions and adapted respectively to engage the rabb'ets in the opposite faces of said sash frame, and screen members secured to the sash frame at opposite sides of said rock
