COLLAR ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 18, .1919.
Application filed August 24, 1914. Serial No. 858,346.
To all whom z'umay concern: v Be it known that I, OSCAR BROWN, a c1t1- I zen of the United States, residing at Homer,
in the county of Banks and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following-to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable othersskilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Thisinvention relates to attachments for collars and the primary object of the invention is the provision of a device for insertion between the folds of a collar for holding the inner and outer layers of the collar in spaced relation with each other to permit of the free andv easy sliding of a neck tie therebetween.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of an attachment as specified which is adjustable to conform to collars of various sizes.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary View of a collar showing a part of the improved collar attachment applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of a part of a collar.
Fig. 3 is a plan View of the improved collar attachment.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of a modified form of the attachment, and
Fig. 5 is a plan view of another modified form of the collar attachment.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates an ordinary gentlemans collar, which isconstructed as having an inner and outer section flap 3 and 4, the inner section 3 of whichengages the neck of the wearer, while the outer section forms the exhibitive section. The collar attachment which is provided for holding the inner and outer layers or sections 3 and 4 of the collar in spaced relation with each other for permitting the free and easy sliding of the necktie therebetween constitutes a substantially circular ring 10, which is constructed of any suitable material such ascelluloid or the like and which has hooks 11 and 12 formed upon its terminal ends for engagement over and with the ends of the inner section 4 of the collar at their meeting junction as is clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The hooks 11 and 12 prevent the attachment 10 from moving or slipping about within the collar and also hold it properly positioned in the collar by the firm binding engagement of the hooks with the edges of the collar.
In Fig. 4 of the drawings a modified form of the invention is shown, which constitutes a substantially circular attachment 20 which is constructed of wire which wire is gold plated or otherwise secured against rusting or corrosion. The attachment 20 is formed of a single length of wire which has resilient convolutions formed therein substantially equi-distant of its end so as to permit of the expansion or contraction of the member 20 for conforming to collars of various sizes. The wire of which the attachment 20 is formed is covered or coated with a braiding of fabric 22 which prevents the wire from cutting or wearing the collar. The wire of which the attachment is formed has its terminal end bent to form hooks 23 and 24 for attachment to the edges or ends of the inner section 4 of the collar for holding the attachment in place and preventing the slipping of the same within the collar.
In Fig. 5 of the drawings an additional modified form of the invention is shown which constitutes an attachment 30 which is formed of a pair of substantially semicircular sections 31 and 32, which have hooks 33 and 34 formed upon their corresponding terminal end for attachment to the edges of the ends of the inner flap of a collar. The other end of the sections 31 and 32 other than those upon which the hooks 33 and 34 are formed, are reduced and have attached thereto an expansible or elastic member 35, which is shown in the drawing as con structed of wire which is coiled to form a resilient member having a plurality of convolutions for permitting of the increasing of the length of the same so that the sections may be adjusted to conform to collars of various sizes. 1
If it is so desired the attachment may be formed of a single strand of wire shaped to form substantially a circle and having its ends bent to form hooks for attachment to the ends of the outer exhibitive section of the collar without departing from'the spirit of this invention. 7 v v In the operation of the improved collar attachment: the attachment is placed between the inner neck band section 4: of the collar and the outer exhibitive section or portion 3 of the same for holding these two sections in spaced relation with each other for permitting the free 7 and easy sliding movement of the necktie between these two sections.
What is claimed is:
A device of the class described adapted for use betweenthe folds of a turned down collar for providing a tie space, said device Copies of this patent may :be obtained. for
including a air of substantially arcuate sec tions, a resi ient spring having each end secured to one end of each sectlon for ad ust- .ahly connecting the sections together, the
free end of each section provided with a hook for engagement with the vertical edges of the inner fold of the collar to retain the device in the collar and the spring permitting the arcuate sections to conform to col lars of various sizes.
In testimony whereof I afiix my in presence oi two witnesses.
OSCAR BROWN.
