Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1,. JOHN ZAwIsZA, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Windsor, Province of Ontario, and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Washstands, of which the following is a specification. 4

This invention relates to improvements in collapsible wash-stands, and has for its principal object the provision of an article of furniture, adapted to contain ordinary toilet articles, combined with a' wash basin and water supply, together with a mirror, and provisions for miscellaneous articles.

A further object is to provide a washstand having combined therein means for heating a portion of the water supply, also means for discharging the water after use from the basin.

These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a ma-` terial part of this disclosure, `and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevational view showing a wash-stand made in accordance with the invention.

Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.

`Referring to the drawings, the cabinet will be seen to consist of a base 10, from which rises a front 11 and back 12, joined by the sides 14, a molding 15 surrounding the cabinet at its base. The upper part of the front 11 is outwardly inclined as at 17 and then vertically extended as at 18. A sectional cover 20 rests upon the upper edges of the back 12 and front 11, and its sections 20 are connected by hinges 21. The table 23 is supported upon a slidable column 26, having upon it a rack 27 engaged with the teeth of a gear 28 iXed upon a transverse spindle 29, having a star wheel 30 extending through the opening 31 formed in the side plate 14.

Thus the table 23, together with the wash basin, may be elevated into an operative position, as shown in Fig. 3, or disposed within the chamber 3.3, formed in the upper front side of the cabinet.

Communicating with the basin 25 is a I flexible tube 35, its lower end extending downward into a receiving tank 36, so that used water may be removed by emptying the tank .36, at any convenient time, the same being accessible by the door 37 in front of the cabinet.

A frame 38 is arranged at the rear of the table 23, and provided with a plurality of drawers 39 in its lower part, while its upper part is adapted to receive a mirror 40. Mirror and drawers being accessible when the frame is raised from the chamber 42 formed centrally in the cabinet into which it is lowered while the wash-stand is collapsed.

Arranged at the rear of the cover 20 are two tanks or reservoirs, respectively 44 and 45, the latter being supplied with a filling spout 46, the other having a similar spout 47, the tank 44 communicating at its lower end with the tube 48, joined with flexible hose 49, connected with another tube 50, passing through the table 23 and provided with faucet 51, which permits water to enter the basin when it is in its lowermost position. Similarly the other tank connects with the tube 53, its opposite end communicating with another faucet 54 so that the water from either of the tanks may be drawn into the basin. Immediately below the tank 44 is a chamber 56 in which may be placed a heater 57, resting upona horizontal partition 58 in the rear of the cabinet so that the heat may be communicated therefrom in the tank 44, thus providing for hot or cold water being drawn into the basin as may be desired.

The tanks are further provided with outlet pipes 59 and 60 which may be connected with any point of disposal.

Formed with the frame elements are a plurality of ratchet-like, inwardly extending teeth 62 upon which may be placed flat plates forming in effect a plurality of adjustable brackets or shelves, upon which articles may be conveniently disposed.

In order to hold the basin and table when in a Vraised position, a detent 65 is engaged with the. frame elements 38 and normally pressed forward by a coiled compression spring 66, the end of the detent engaging in one of the innell walls 68 as best shown in Fig.

Thus the wash-stand may be used in the position. indicated in Fig. l in which the stand, basin, mirror and drawers are conveniently displayed or the whole inclosed Within base of the cabinet and the leaves 20 turned over forming a level top. When it is required t0 use the basin the leaves 20 are turned upwardly and the star wheel 30 operated to raise the basin and other elements into the position shown, Figs. 3 and 4;, prior to which Water may be turned into the basin from either ofthe - faucets 51 or 54.

From the foregoing it will be seen that a oommodious collapsible stand has been described especially adaptable for country places where water supply and like modern conveniences are not attainable.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire toI secure by Letters Patent, is-

In a collapsible wash-stand, the combination with a hollow cabinet containing interior compartments and a pair of water tanks arranged on said cabinet, of means for heating one or" said tanks, a basin, a mirror, a plurality of drawers, means for raising and lowering said basin, the mirror and drawers being adapted to be raised and lowered by hand, flexible connections between said water tanks and said basin, means for controlling said connections, and means for receiving water from said basin.
