To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, O'r'ro H. Voss and HENRY E. LIOHTENHAN, citizens of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Securing Rope Ends; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to the art of preventing the unwinding of rope ends and it has'for its object to provide a metal cap for this purpose which may be readily slipped over the end of the rope but which may not be withdrawn from the end of the rope. A further object of the invention is to provide an article that may be manufactured by drawing from a blank of spring metal.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details ofconstruction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device applied to a severed rope end;
Fig. 2, a longitudinal section of what is shown in Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3, a transverse section through the device.
Referring to the drawings 10 indicates an ordinary rope and 11 the device for securing the ends of the strands to prevent the latter from becoming unraveled. This device is in the form of a cap which is engaged over the end of the rope 10. Formed integral with the open end of the cap is a plurality of teeth 11 disposed convergingly and at acute angles to the longitudinal axis of the cap and within its inclosure. These teeth 11 are of a resilient nature and in applying the device over the end of the rope they are forced apart at their extremities. After the end of the rope is fully inserted in the device it will be apparent that the teeth 11 will bite into the body of the rope increasingly when it is at-' tempted to pull the cap from the end of the rope and will prevent disengagement of the cap as will be obvious.
What is claimed is A cap for the end of a. rope consisting of a cylindrical body portion having one open end provided with teeth that extend from the edge of said open end convergingly into and lie wholly within the inclosure of the body portion for movement toward each other under the influence of withdrawal strain upon a rope end within the body portion and with which the teeth may be engaged.
