To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRED LINDSTAEDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fairmont, in the county of Martin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Flagpoles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a collapsible flag pole and the primary object is to provide a pole or stafi from which a flag may be unfurled and which will extend to a considerable height while in operative position but will be so constructed as to permit demounting and folding of the stafi.

Another object of the invention is to provide a hollow tubular pole of this character divided into sections whereby the pole may be folded into compact form for permitting easy transportation and to permit the pole to be placed in a minimum space when not in use.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a collapsible flag pole which consists of comparatively few parts and is simple in construction, but durable and well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which devices of this character are ordinarily subjected.

For a full description of the invention and the advantages and merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the accompanying drawings, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the pole in operative position.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the pole in folded position.

Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 33 of Fig; 1.

Referring to the drawing, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, and in which like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, a base plate 1 is constructed of metal and is preferably of a size suitable to form a firm base for the pole so that the same will be prevented from tilting or falling when in position. A tapered spike or spur 2 is integral with the bottom of the base 1 and this spike is adapted to be driven into the ground when the pole is erected. Integrally formed with the top of the base 1 is a tubular pole section 3 which is of tapered hollowed formation and is preferably constructed from suitable metal such as malleable iron or the like. As stated, this lower section 3 is tapered for the greater portion of its length but its upper end is extended for a short distance in perfectly cylindrical formation forming a hollow cylindrical sleeve 4.

A top section 5 is also of tapered hollow formation and its lower end has a sleeve 6 adapted to be received in the sleeve 4: when the pole is erected as shown by Fig. 1 of the drawing. This straight portion 6, however, is also fitted into the sleeve 4 when the pole is collapsible or folded as shown to advantage in Fig. 2 and, when in this position, the apex of the pole is extended to the bottom of the lower section 3 so that the pole is practically reduced to half its length for shipping or storing when not in use.

The terminal of the lower section 3 at this upper end has oppositely disposed notches 7 each adapted to receive a suitable fastening element 8 the end of which is received in a depression 9 formed in the end of the inner sleeve 6 of the upper section. In this manner the pole sections are held in position and a flag may be hoisted and unfurled in the usual manner.

From the foregoing it will be observed that a very simple and durable collapsible flag pole has been provided the details of which embody the preferred form. I desire it to be understood, however, that slight changes in the minor details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scopeof the claim hereunto appended.
