TIMOTHY ROGERS, OF FREDERIGKTOWN, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN TELEGRAPH-POLES.v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TIMOTHY ROGERS, of Fredericktown, in the county of Knox and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Telegraph-Pole; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in a sectionalmeta-llic telegraph-pole, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a longitudinal vertical section of my telegraph-pole.
A, B, G, and D represent four sections of a hollow metallic telegraph-pole made tapering, as shown, and joined together by socket-joints a a. The pole may, of course, be made of any desired number of sections and of any size required. Around the bottom of the ground or base section A is a flange, b, which, when said section is inserted in the hole in the ground and the dirt packed in around and on top of the same, will hold it firm. This bottom section is to be filled with dirtE packed together, or with cement and gravel, or any other material, if desired, and the filling is extended far enough up within the section A so as to lie around the tenon of the section B, which forms an inner lining to the base A near its top. Near the upper end of the top section D is a collar or flange, d, to support a thimble, G, placed on said upper section. This thimble may be loose or fastened by a set-screw, and provided with one or more brackets, H H, each carrying as many insulators as may be necessary.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'
The combination of the hollow metallic sections D O B, each provided with tenons and shoulders, as shown, with the base A having flanges b, and filled in with suitable material, (13,) which extends to or above the joint of section B, all substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 5th day of September, 1871.
TIMOTHY ROGERS.
