Description

Patented July 23, 1872,
J C DICKEY Improvement in Casing-Teesfor Oil-Wells.
UNITED "STATES PATENT Drrrcn JULIUS C. DIGKEY, OF TITUSVILLE, ASSIGNOR TO 0. B. SEYMOUR & 00., OF PLEASANTVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CASlNG-TS FOR OIL-WELLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,719, dated July 23, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
f1, JULIUS c. DICKEY, of Titusville, in the county of Crawford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Oasing-Ts for Oil-Wells,of which the following is a specification and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in making the T with an upright cast on or screwed into the T for the thimble-tongs or clamp to I rest against While elevating tubing or sucker- .rods. I Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 1s a longitudinal cross-section. n
The T A is screwed onto the casing by the screw-thread B, and the tubing is screwed into the coupling 0, the screw-threads D D bein gfor the reception of gas-pipes. The upright E, which is screwed into the T, I sometimes cast ,on the T. It need not be over eight or ten inches in length. In elevating tubing, after the clamp is put under the thimble, the tongs are put onto the thimble and rest against the upright E to keep the tubing from turning while being screwed up or unscrewed. When using the T Iiow in use it is necessary for a man to hold the thimble-tongs while the tubing is being screwed up or unscrewed; butwith this improvement this labor is done away with, thereby saving labor, 850., in elevating tubing or sucker-rods. In using improved tubingclamps, which do away with the use of thimble-tongs, this upright E is of still greater importance, as it keeps the clamps from turning (and consequently the tubing) while the tubing is being screwed upor unscrewed,-1t
being important that an upright should be in close proximity to the clamps to make the clamps perform their proper functions. The upright E is also used for the sucker rod clamps to rest against, and answers the same purpose in elevating sucker-rods that it does in elevating tubing.
I claim as my invention- I The combination of the upright E with the T A, substantially in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
JULIUS G. DIOKEY.
