To all whom it may.c0ncern.'-
Be it known that I, LOUIS F. LOHRENS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burglar-Alarm Locks and Door-Bells, of which the following is a specification.
"My invention relates to improvements in burglar alarm locks and more particularly to such an alarm arranged to cooperate with a door guard of the slotted hasp and latch type, such as is commonly used for the purpose of providing a lock for holding the door closed, and also a lockwhich will permit the door to be opened a few inches'but will prevent it from being further opened.
Theprincipal object of my invention is to provide in combination with such a lock an alarm signal which will be actuated upon pressure being exerted upon the door, sounding an audible alarm, it being immaterial whether the door be bolted in its closed position or locked in its partially open position. Another object of my invention is to provide an alarm in association with the hasp member of such a guard, the two button latch commonly employed with guards of this character remaining unchanged. In my apparatus the latch member, this part being usually attached to the door, remains unal tered, whereas the hasp member secured to the casing is associated with the alarm bell so that when pressure is exerted thereon it is free to move a'slight distance before coming against a stop preventing further movement. This slight movement resulting from pres sure being exerted on the door, as in an attempt to open it, will actuate the alarm.
Asa further refinement of my invention I have provided in connection with the audible alarm a door button positioned on the outside of the casing taking the place of the usual door bell button, pressure upon which will actuate the alarm. This enables the audible signal to serve the double function of announcing the presence ofa caller and also sounding an alarm should an unauthorized person attempt to open the door.

Mounted upon the jamb of the door adjacent the latch 12 is a plate 15 which overlies the molding 16 and is suitably secured thereto by means of screws 17. This plate is looped asat 1S and then turned outwardly to form a pivotal support, as at 19, for the hasp, the plate then being bent back upon itself, as at 20, to engage the inner face of the jamb of the door and provide an additional attachment member. 7 The plate 15 at the point where it'is doubled back upon itself, is cut away, as at 21, to receive the head ,13 of. the latch when the door isblos'ed, the
hasp 22 at that time overlying the outer face of thelatch 12 in position for engagement through its slotted opening 23rwith the rotatable button, or thumbbolt 14. V The cutting away, as at 21, of the plate 15, provides upper and lowerarms 2 1 to which the hasp is pivoted. Instead'of providingcircularapertures in the ends of the arms 24 in which to the hasp with respect to its mountingplate V V on lines perpendicular to the casing.
On ;a downwardly extending wing 28 of the plate '15 I have mounted an alarm'mechanism comprising a base part 29 and bell 30.
The bell is carriedion the outer end of a central spindle 31 to which is secured one end of the coil spring 32. Throughthe-train of mechanism indicated as at 33, the power stored bythe spring is transmitted to anescapement pawl 3a which in .turnactuates an arm 35"on the end of which is secured the hammer 36. The spring is wound by rota- .tion'of the bell 30, a suitable ratchet 37 being providedto hold the spring in its wound condition. i V 7 'Actuation of the :bell is secured through a reciprocable plunger 38 which 'is guidedly I vheld in an upstanding lug 39" carried by the plate and projects intothe base part 29of the bell. 4:. The combination with a door and its casing of a door guard comprising a hasp carried by the casing, a latch on the door for association with the hasp to lock the door in either closed or partially open position,
a support for the hasp, having a slot therein extending perpendicularly to the door frame, a pivot pin carried by the hasp and engaging the. slot, a signal, and means actuated by the bodily outward movement of the pin within the slot to initiate the signal.
5. The combination in a door guard comprising a slotted hasp for attachmentto a door casing and a latch for attachment to a 20 door, of a pivotal mounting for said hasp permitting free pivotal movement when not engaged by the latch and a slight limited bodily movement in "a plane substantially perpendicular to the plane occupied" by the 25 door when closed, and means actuated by the bodily movement of the hasp to initiate a signal. 7
