will enable others skilled in the art to which.
it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accom anying drawings, and to the figures of re erence marked thereon, which form a; part of this specification.
My invention relates to and its object is to provlde a toy in which a slight explosion discharges with a report an arrow or similar projectile.
My invention istillustrated in the single figure of the accompanying drawing, which is a side-elevation of my device, with a ortionof the cylinder, hereinafter referred to, broken away to show the internal arrangement.
In. the drawing, 1 is a cylindrical shell closed at oneend, composed of any suitable material, as for instance, drawn brass. 2 is a cork or sto per which fits closely into the open end of t e cylinder 1. Firmly fixed in the cork or stopper is one end of the shaft of an arrow 3, carrying at its outer end a feather or simllar appendage 4, to steady the forward end of the shaft in its flight. 5 is a weight or slug of lead or other suitable metal, shorter than and capable of movement in'the space between the bottom of the cylinder and the inner end of the cork. fi'is an explosive percussion-disk, of pa er, such as is used wit toy istols and the 11 a} The percussionisk is dropped into the mouth of the cylinder 1, the slug is slipped onto the top of the disk, the cork is pushed tightly into the mouth of the cylinder, with its arrow projecting outwardly. The device is now ready for operation. The boy throws the cylinder thus loaded up into the air as far as he can. When the bottom of the cylinder strikes the ound, the percussion-disk is exploded by tfi: impact of the slug the resulting gases discharging the cork with a report and shooting the arrow into the air.
The slug is usually thrown from the cylinder but a short distance and is readily found and may be used indefinitely, the only suppliis required being the cheap percussiondis 5.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A toy comprising a cylinder closed at one end, a stopper for the 0 en mouth of the cylinder, an elongated feat ered shaft connected with the stopper, and a metal slug movable between the bottom of the cylinder and the inner end of the stopper.
2. A toy comprising a cylinder closed at one end, a stopper for the open mouth of the cylinder, an elongated feathered shaft connected with the stopper, and a metal slug I vlinder 70 f movable between the bottom of a o and the inner end of the stopper, combined with an explosive percussion-member interposed between the bottom of the cylinder and said slug.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
