' DWIGHT T. ROGERS, or Maestrias, naw YORK Specification Of Letters Patent.
MILKING-sTooL.
Patented Mar. 4, 1919.
Application filed J' une 2, 19,17. Serial No. 172,365.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, DWIGHT T. ROGERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Machias, in the county of Cattaraugus and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milking- Stools, of which kthe following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to milking stools and has for its purpose to provide an improved construction whereby the pail supporting elements can be adjusted to different angu lar relations with respect to the seat. element of the stool, suchadjustments being effected with ease and facility and through the medium of an exceedingly simple and inexpensive structure.
Furthermore it is my purpose to provide a pail supporting element in the form of a ringwhich can also be adjusted, when not in use, to a position surrounding the seat element of the stool and in substantially the same plane as the seat element.`
With the above and other purposes in view my invention consists in the details of construction and in Ithe arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out inthe appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Y Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved milking stool partly broken away Y and showing various adjustments of the pail supporting ring in dotted lines;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of what is shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 a partial vertical section of what is shown in Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of a fragment of the pail supporting ring.
Referring to the drawings, my improved milking stool is shown as comprisinga base 10 in the form of an upwardly tapering hollow metallic pedestal. It will be understood however that this base can be of any desired construction and formed of any desired material. Revolubly mounted on the upper end of the base 10 concentric with the latter is a seat 11 having adepending flange 12. Secured to this liange 12 are the forked portions 13 of a radial arm 14. This arm is provided with an inclined slot 15, and inwardly of said slot is an adjusting pin 16 `for a purpose that will presently appear.
My invention further contemplates a pail holding ring 17 having outwardly extending .terminals 18 disposed in embracing relation to the arm `14. These terminals 18 cari in- ,termediate their ends a pivot bolt 19 willich passes through the inclined slot 15 and whereby pivotal connection is afforded between the ring 17 and the arm 14. The ter minals 18 are provided respectively with stepped notches 20 in which the pin 16 is adapted to selectively seat to hold the ring 17 in different angular adjustments with respect to the seat 11, as will be obvious, the pivot bolt 19 adapted to be moved back and forth within the inclined slot 15 to permit of such adjustment. The terminals 18 of the ring 17 are held in proper spaced relation by a brace plate 21 secured to the body of the ring at the inner ends of the termi nals. In addition to the plate 21 serving the function of securing the terminals 18 in proper relation it also acts as a. stop for engagement with the arm 14 when the ring is swung into encircling relation with respect to the seat 11. This engagement of the plate 21 with the arm 14 occurs when the ring 17 is disposed substan ially in the plane of-the seat 11.
It will be noted that by revolubly mount ing the seat and securing the supporting ring 17 thereto the pail can respond to any forward or backward movement of the animal during milking without changing the position of the sea-t and base.
While I have illustrated and described one form of carrying my invention into practice it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the arrangement of parts can be resorted to without departing from the scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A milking stool comprising a base, a seat revolubly mounted on the base, a. pail supporting member pivot ally connected with the seat., and means for positively holding said member in different angular adjustments with respect to the seat.
' 2. A milking stool comprising a base, a seat revolubly mounted on the base, a radial arm carried by the seat, a pail supporting ring pivotally connected to the arm, and means carried by the ring and arm for select-ively holding the ring in dii-ferent angular adjustments Withv respecty to the seat.
8. A. milking stool chomp'risingI albaseyaV seat revolubly mounted on the base, Va radial arm carried by the seat and provided With an. inclined slot, a pail holding ring having its terminals disposed in embracing relation to the arm, a pivotvstud carried by said terminal portions and extending through said slot, and a pin 'carried by the arm adapted to seat in stepped notches' formed in the terminals' of the ring to hold the latter in di'erent angular adjustments with respect a; me seat.' Y
4. A milking stool comprising a base, a seat revolubly mounted on thelbaise, ,a radial arm carried by the `seam Va pail holding yring having its'terminalsdisposed in embracing relation to the arm and piyotally connected thereto, and a braceplate connecting the terminalportions of the ring and engageable with the `arm to limit the pivotal movement of the" ring' in 'one direction.
A milking stool comprising a base, a seat mounted on the base, a radial arm carricd by the seat, a pail supporting ring pivotally connected to the arm, and means carried by one of the last two mentioned members haring stepped notches formed therein for engagement Witha pin carriedby the other ci said'member's, for the purpose of selectively holding the ring indifferent angular adjustments `with respect tothe seat.
In testimony whereof I ax my signature in presence of two Witnesses."
