BURNER CONSTRUCTION. I 1
Application filed March 15, 1918. Serial No. 222,645. 1 I,
lowing tobe a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the, same.
The invention relates. to a burner. construction, and .more particularly to the class of steam generators and hydro-carbon burners for cooking stoves, ranges, furnaces or thelike..'- I
The primary object of the invention isthe provision of a burner of this character, wherein water and kerosene are preheated to generate steam and gas, which commingle for producing an inflammable. fluid which when ignited possesses maximum heating quality and in this manner affording a saving in the consumption of kerosene and avoiding any waste thereof.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a burner structure of this character, wherein the parts thereof are readily accessible and the arrangement thereof permits the ,easy mounting of the same within a stove, range, furnace or the like, the structure being novel in form to assure the successful and perfect working thereof.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a burner structure of this character, which is comparatively simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its operation, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in art hereinafter pointed out.
he invention accordingly consists in the features of construction and arrangement of elements, which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter set forth, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing Figurel is a fragmentary top plan view of a stove showing the burner construction constructed in accordance with the invention applied for,
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional View through the stove showing the burner therein, A v
Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the burner detached from the stove. H 7
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing. 1 I
Referring to the drawing in detail. A designates generally a portionv ofa cooking stove, which in this instance is of the range type and hasformed therein as usual the fire box 5 the same being accessible through the opening in the top of the stove andthis opening is closed through the mediuml of a lid or stove plate 6, which is removably fitted within the opening in the ordinary well lmown manner.
The steam generator and hydro-carbon burner, comprises a pair of substantially shaped pipes 7 and 8 respectively which are disposedv inv cross relation, to eachother and are adapted to depend within the fire box 5 in the stove A. The vertical limbs 10 and 11, respectively of each pipe are passed up- Wardly through suitable holes in the lid or stove plate 6 at opposite sides of the center thereof and these limbs are secured or held fast to the plate in any suitable manner. Connected to the limbs 10 of the U-shaped pipes 7 and 8 are branch pipes 12 which have leads 13 from a double chambered tank or reservoir 14 which is supported in any suitable manner at an elevated point on the stove or above the same. The pipes 12 are fitted With suitably manually operated cut-off valves 15 which control and shut off the flow of fluid in said pipes. The reservoir 14 in its respective chambers are adapted to contain kerosene and water of any desired quantity.
Mounted on the limbs 11 of the U-shaped pipes 7 and 8 are substantially goose neck shaped nozzles 16 the tips 17 of which are directed downwardly toward the center of the lid or stove plate 6, which latter is formed with acentral opening 18 therein and these nozzles 16 deliver kerosene and water interiorly of the fire box '5 through the opening 18 in the lid or stove plate 6.
Adapted to be contained within the fire box 5 to the desired height therein is a filling, preferably ashes, clay or the like 19 Specification of Letters Patent. t t e 25,1913,
which is adapted to be impregnated by the Water for the admitting of steam therefrom on the. heatingithereof. When-the oil nozzle 16 is lighted the flame therefromwvill-play upon the U-shaped pipes 7 and 8 for generatingsteam-Which is'admittedfromthe other nozzle and also the preheating of the oil to convert the same into gas, I the :U -ShflPQClL pipes 7 and 8 being designed to form the preheatingsectionstof .the burner i-attachment.
To operate the burnera fire is kindled Within the fire box 5 of the stove by theouse of oilso as toxheat the-U shaped pipes'i'7 and 8 and-the water contained in one of the pipes Will be generated into steam While-the-Eoil in-the other'pipe will bexpreheat ed toconvert the same into gas. The Waterejected from one of the nozzles 16=intothe filling 19 in the fire bOX'5-Wl'll becomelheated within thelatter to generate steam-=therei-n and-' this It will beynoted' by reason of the arrangement of the oil-burner nozzles 16 the i'fiame when the oil is ignited will play directly upontheU-shaped pipes? and 8' for-the heatingthereof so thatthe Water in one pipe Oopiesmf this patent=may=be obtained for-=five:cents. each, byaddresingthe. Commissioner iofailatents,
Will generate steam While the oil in the other pipe will be converted into gas.
Theffluid' flowing through the, pipes 12 is controlled by-the valves so -as-to "permit the flow to-be regulated or shut off as the occasion-mayrequira, v I
'From heforegoing it is thought that the construction and manner of operation of the burner W111 be clearly understood, and thereforewazmore extended explanation hash-been omitted.
:W hat :is cl'aimed is The combination With a stove lid or plate having a central 'hole, of. abirrner com-prising a pairof U shaped v pipes arranged in :cross'relation to each other and havingtheir limbs extended upwardly through the'li 'd or plate at points opposite each other and-on opposite sides ofthe central hole, goose neck shaped nozzles detachably connected with the upper ends of apai-r of the l'imbs' with their free ends disposed Within the ;central 'hol'e'within the: plate or'lid, means forsup- "plying oil to one of the other or: remaining pair of limbs, and means forsupplying Water totheother limb of; the rema1n1ng;pa1r.'
