Description

W. T. FRY.
BRUSH HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 11. I916.
Patented Jan. 28, 1919. 4
WILLIAM T. FRY, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
. BRUSH-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 28, 1919.
Application filed January 17, 1916. Serial No. 72,604.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. FRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Brush- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in brush supports or holders and has particular application to a combination brush support and wiper for supporting brushes in proximity to the edge of a paperhangers paste bucket, calcimine bucket or the like.
In carrying out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide a device of the class described whereby the brush may be conveniently supported in proximity to the edge of the bucket and whereby any excess paste, calcimine or the like may be wiped from the brush.
It is also my purpose to provide a device of the type set forth which may be rapidly and conveniently applied to and removed from the bucket and which, when in posi tion upon the bucket, will be securely and effectively held in place.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawing;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a paperhangers paste bucket equipped with a combination brush support and scraper constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the device re moved from the bucket.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the device showing the supports therefor in folded position. A
Referring now to the drawing in detail, 1 designates a bucket or like receptacle of any suitable construction, while 2 designates my improved support as an entirety. In the present instance, this support embodies a plate 3 having the end edges and one side edge upturned to form a bead 4, and the remaining side edge out out on the arc of a circle as at 5 to conform to the curvature of the upper edge of the bucket. In the present instance, a reinforcing rod 6 is disposed within the bead 4 and cooperates with the bead to strengthen the plate. Fastened to the bottom of the plate adjacent to each end thereof are bearing brackets 7 8, 8 indicate supports for the plate 3 and each support 8 is preferably formed from a single length of wire bent upon itself between its ends as at 9 and having one end portion extended outwardly as at 10 and journaled in the brackets 7 at one end of the plate, and the remaining end portion downturned as at 11 and cooperating with the bent portion 9 to receive the upper edge of the bucket. The outer extremity of the outturned portion 10 is bent at right angles to itself as at 12 and cooperates with the bent portion 9 to hold the support within the brackets and at the same time limit the swinging movement of the support from inactive position to active position. The supports are so arranged relatively to each other as to nicely receive the edge of the bucket, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings, and when the supports are in active position and in engagement with the bucket, the plate is held upon the upper edge of the ucket so as to support the brush, while the curved edge 5 of the plate forms a scraper whereby any surplus material may be removed from the brush.
When the device is removed from the bucket, the supports may be folded against the bottom of the plate as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings so as to facilitate the carrying of the device.
While I have herein shown and described one preferred form of my invention by way of illustration. I wish it to be understood that I do not limit or confine myself to the precise details of construction herein described and delineated, as modification and variation may be made within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
A brush holder adapted to be applied to a bucket comprising a plate, brackets mounted at the under surface thereof, supports turnably held in the brackets and each consistin of a wire folded at a point between its en s upon itself and having an end portion which is parallel with and spaced from said folded portion, each support also having another end portion disposed at an 0b tuse angle to the length of the folded por- In testimony whereof I afiix my signature tionI 1 the said1 end plorgions apid fplld lying in presence of two witnesses. in t e same p one, t e ast sai' 'en portion being provided with an angularly disposed WILLIAM 13 extremity which is disposed at a right angle Witnesses:
to the plane in which the fold and the end MARTHA FRY, portions lie. C. F. MADISON.
