The present invention relates to attachments for fastening together the head and foot sections of beds for display or show purposes, and the primary object of the invention is to provide novel and improved attachments of this character which are applicable universally to the various types of side rail fastenings as used on both metal and wooden beds, whereby a sin le set of the attachments will serve for all types of beds. Another object of the invention is to provide attachments of this character which are capable of manipulation with facility in applying them to beds having rail fastenings of different types and which embody the necessary parts to cooperate with the rail fastenings on the head and foot sections to secure such sections together without requiring the use of the fastening parts on the side rails, thereby avoiding liability of loss of these parts of the bed.

To these and other ends, the invention consists in certain improvements, and combinations and arrangements of parts, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out particularly in the claims at the end of the specification.

The invention comprehends a pair of the attachments which constitute, in effect, short side rails which are placed between the head and foot sections of the bed in the positions usually occupied by the side rails of the bed.

The attachments are preferably du licates, eachcomprising a rigid and prefera ly rectangular frame 1, the ends 2 of which present parallel vertical sides to abut against the head and foot sections of the bed adjacent to the side rail fastenings thereof. The frame has a central opening and its ends 2 are provided with openings 3 through which a pair of fastening devices 4: are adapted to extend. Each fastening device comprises a threaded rod 5 of suitable length and of a diameter to extend loosely through the opening 3, one end of the rod being flattened to form a narrow shank 6, and the extremity of this shank is bent edgewise or in an arc to form a book 7. A nut 8, preferably a wing nut, is threaded on the rod 5, and an additional nut 9 of ordinary form is also provided. These fastening devices are capable of being reversely fitted in the ends 2 of the frame; that is to say, they may be fitted in the frame as shown in Fig. 1, in which case the threaded'ends of the rods project from the ends of the frame to 0061)- erate with certain types of rail fastenings on the head and foot sections of the beds, or, these fastening devices may be applied to the frame as shown in Fig. 2, in which case the hooks project beyond the ends of the frame and are adapted to cooperate with other types of rail fastenings on the head and foot sections of the beds. I claim? as any invention: 1. An attachment for securing together in close proximity the head and 'foot' seeti0ns :of beds; comprising-a frame to fit between the head and foot sections, and fastening devicesx extending through the ends of" the frame and reversible to bring'eitherof their ends tothej'exteriorof' the frame, the oppoxsite iendsof each fastening device having diiferentitypes of fastening means thereon -'to "cooperate "with the complemental rai] i fastenin'gsfof different types on the'bed' see i tions.

3. An attachment for securing together in close proximity the head and foot sections of beds having side rail fastenings of different types, comprising a frame adapted to fit between the bed sections, and fastening devices extending loosely through the ends of the frame and individually reversible endwise therein, each fastening device comprising a threaded rod having a reduced flattened shank bent edgewise to form a laterally ofl'set hook, and a nut to cooperate with 15 nesses.
