SOLOMON PRICE AND SOLOMON DAVIS, OF MELBOURNE, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA, ASSIGNORS TO SAMUEL PRICE, OF MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA.
LOCK-DOWN MULTIPLE-COTTON-REEL HOLDER.
Application filed February 15, 1917.
To all 'wle-om t 'may concern:
Be it known that we, SOLOMON PRICE and. SOLOMON DAVIS, British subjects, and residents, respectively, of No. 50 Armstrong street, Middle Park, and No. 30 Russell street, Melbourne, both in the State of Victoria, Commonwealth of Australia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lock-Down Multiple-CottOnBeel Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a lock-down multiple reel holder for such as Cotton reels, which has been designed for use mainly in clothing factories and like establishments, Where 1t becomes necessary to hand out to the operatives a number of assorted reels of cotton or silk, for use in the manufacture of clothing, garments and other like articles, also the invention is applicable to sewing machines for supplying the cotton thereto, it taking the place of the single reel.
The invention will now be described aided by a reference to the attached sheet of drawings which illustrates the preferred form of the invention as it will be obvious that the multiple cotton reel holder may be made in other-forms without departing from the Object of our invention which is to secure or lock the reels of cotton on the holder in such a manner that they can vonly be re- Ymoved by the person holding the key of the lock or fastening appliance.
Referring to the drawing, Figures 1 to 4 are drawn to about half actual size, while the remaining detail figures are about full size although we do not limit ourselves to makin the reel holders to any particular size. n said drawings Figure l is a top plan and Fig. 2 a side view of the lock down reel holder, the latter figure showing it seated on a pedestal or stand.
Fig. 3 is a central sectional view on line a, a Fig. 1 and showing the key for locking the cover plate in position and the reel holder arranged on the pin of a sewing machine arm.-

showing the swivel catch or button in its locking position.
Fig. 7 is a central section of the upper part of the reel holder tubular column showing the side wall for retaining the catch or button and Fig. 8 is a central section of the central tubular part of reel holder showing the means for locking the cover plate in position and the means of centering its lower part on a vertical pin. r
The invention is constructed of a horizontal double plate disk A having a central tubular column A1 secured to it and rotatable on a central pin B, said disk A also has say six or any desired number of vertical pins A2 arranged in a circle and projecting upward at equidistant positions from its surface, the heads of said pins being soldered to the under surface of the upper plate and thus lying in the space between it and the lower plate as shown in Fig. 3, while supported loosely on the upper end of column A1 and above the pins A2 is a cover disk C whose distance above the lower disk suits the height of the several assorted cotton reels D when placed on said pins A2 and secured thereon by the lock down cover C which is provided with a central key hole C1.
The locking means between tubular column A1 and cover C consist in providing within the tube, two depending catch pieces t1-a1 supported from top end of tube and so forming an oblong slot thereat (see Fig. l) while attached to the underside of cover C is a descending bridge piece c1 having a swiveling latch or button 'c2 centered on its lower part at such a position that when its square or polygonal center stud c3, which is made secure to the said latch by screw nut and soldering, is turned by such as a tubular or box key E, the end parts of latch or button c2 will pass to under the cheek pieces a1 and so lock the cover C securely in position to prevent the removal of ythe reels D from their pins A2. At the lower part of tube is a ferrule As to take the pin B, such ferrule being held in position by being secured to the bottom plate A and at top end to a cross piece o2 secured in the tube A1.
When the multiple reel holder is used to hold the cotton reels for a set of operatives at a table, then the pin B on which it rotatesl` is provided on a Hanged pedestal or movable seating B1, Fig. 2, or when employed with a sewing machine, themreel becentered-on a pin as E on a seating or pedestal as before. The lock down holder may be constructed of wood or metal.
From the foregoing, it will be understood that our invention resides mainly in the provision of a lock down multiple reel holder of Aany description for use in such as clothing factories, and upon sewing machines, and it will be obvious that locking means other than what if liereinbefore described and shown in the drawings may be employed. l
Having now described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letl ters Patent is,-
1. A lock down multiple reel holder consisting of a disk with a central tubular columnrotatable on a stationary pin, said disk being furnished with a number of vertical pins to take the cotton reels, an upper disk seated on top end of said central tubular column and providing with locking means consisting of a swiveling latch, the ends of which pass under suitable cheeks in the tubular column, substantially as described and shown.
, 2. A lock down multiple reel holder consisting of a disk or lower plate having a central tubular column and a ring of vertical pins combined with va disk or cover plate having central hole to take a key and a suitable siviveling latch designed to engage the under edges of catch plates located in the tubular column substantially asdescribed and shown.
3. A lock down multiple reel holder of the type herein described furnished with a central hole in its lower part in combination with a pedestal or stand having a central pin upon' which the holder can rotate, a column fixed to and upstanding on the holder and being hollow in its upper portion, a cover disk adapted to be positioned over the topl of the column, andmeans for locking the cover disk on the column includy ing two parts, an adjustable locking member and a keeper therefor, one of said parts being carried by the cover disk and the other` being positioned inside the hollow -upper portion of the column, substantially as described and shown.
' 4f. A lock down multi-ple reel holder 'comprising in combination a disk or plate, pins thereon to take the reels, a central tubular column also thereon, a cover disk orplate adapted to be mounted on the tubular column, and locking means for securing thecover disk on the tubular column, said locking means including a locking member carried by and movable on the cover disk and a keeper for saidv locking member positioned inside the tubular column.
In testimony whereof we have signed ourl soLoMoN PRICE. soLoMoiv- Davis.
