FOUNTAIN-PEN BLOTTER.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, JACOB GoLns'rEIN, a citizen of the United States, reslding at West Hazleton, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have' invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Pen Blotters, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to stationery, and more especially to blotters; and the object of the same is to carry a blotter upon the cap which usually'covers the pen point of a fountain pen.

My invention is carriedY out by mounting upon said cap a metal cylinder which contains theblotter, and mounting on the cylinder a supplemental cap for covering the same, but it is obvious that the main cap of the pen could itself take the place of the cylinder, and I wish my idea to be as 'broadly considered.

Details of the preferred manner of carrying out the invention are set forth in the following description and claims and attention is drawn to the drawings, wherein- F igure l 1s an elevation of a fountain pen provided with this attachment.

In the drawings, I have used the -letter B to desigatethe barrel of the fountain pen A which is usually of .hard rubber, and P is the pen point itself. C is the cap which usually covers this point and closes this end of the barrel when the same is not in use, and this cap isgenerally also of hard rubber. Sometimes the cap carries the spring clip S, and sometimes it is mounted on the barrel. In the present case, as. the cap is of metal, I make it an integral part of my attachment which also is of metal.

Coming now to the details of the invention, the numeral 1 designates the bodywhich is substantially cylindrical and is ofl metal. By preference it is crimped along opposite sides to form two longitudinal grooves 3 which will of course produce ribs 4 on the exterior. At its lower end 5 it may be clipped or otherwise fastened around or to the cap C, and by preference I make its lower end into the form of a spring clip, as v Specification of Letters Patent.

shown at S. The upper and lower ends of the body are open, excepting that its lower end is closed by the upper end of the cap C. The numeral 6 designates a wirebent substantially into a rectangle. This cap is to be slipped over the body, and its grooves 13 slide onto the ribs 4 thereof. The body is by preference provided around its mid-length with a shoulder l5 against which theI lower end of the cap rests when the parts are in place, and at this time the upper end l2 of the cap does not quite touch the blotting lroller 10. However, I have described the cap as of hard rubber and the attachment of metal and when so madeit will doubtless be the attachment which will carry the spring clip S.

The use of the device is obvious. After having written and at a time when cap C is ofi" the pen, it is quite eas for the user to Withdraw the cap 11 and lot his signature by running thelittle roller over it.

The foregoing description and the drawings have reference to what may be considered the preferred or approved form of my invention. It is to be understood that I may make such changes in construction and arrangement and combination of parts, materials, dimensions, et cetera, as may prove expedient and fall within the scope of the appended claims. Having thus fully described my invention, what I' claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i 1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a cylindrical body-having ribs on its opposite sides producing internal grooves; of a wire bent into parallel 'arms secured within said grooves and their said body for inclosing the roller` when no in use.`
