SG that am @mi @mi Winch i@ formed therearound by these curved flanges ing strips have bolt receiving openings formed therein and registering openings are formed through the flanges 7. A circular closing member 14 has a flange as indicated at 155 formed around the edge thereof and provided with bolt receiving openings which register with the openings of the extensions 11 and the llange portions 7, and by passing the clamping bolts 16 through these registering openings of the several members and tightening nuts on the ends thereof, the parts are drawn together in such relation that a tight joint is established, it being preferable that the packing strip 1'? be disposed between the ilanges 7 and the flange 15. rlhis assemblage of the several members Ll and the member 111 forms a bottom member which is to all intents and purposes substantially continuous and liquid tight throughout its entire extent, it however being understood that the formation of the member from a plurality of panels or mem bers permits the formation of a completed bottom or top having a considerable surface area and a large diameter, Without the ne tensions 22 cessity of procuring a single sheet of material which would in some instances necessarily be of special and eXtra large sizes, and also with economy in the sheet material which is used as the substantially sector shaped panel members can be cut from opposite ends of a sheet and thus very small Waste of the material Will occur.
v'll`he top portion of the tank is constructed somewhat after the manner of forming tne bottom portion, the several substantially sector shaped plates or panels 18 being pro vided with the side flanges 19 and 20, as is better shown in Fig. 4, and being vcut off at their ends as indicated at 21, so that the extension 22 is left. The flanges 19 and are provided with bolt receiving openings and by assembling the parts in such relation that a plurality of the plates or panels 18 are made to form a circular top portion and disposing the strengthening strips 2li on the outer sides of the flanges 19 and 20 with the clamping boltsl 25 clamped and secured therethrough, the several panels will be held together in 'the proper fitted relation. 1t is preferable that the packing strip 26 be placed between the flanges 19 and 20 of the several panels 1S, and thus when the flanges are clamped together through the medium of the bolts a liquid tight joint is established. The eX- roject inwardly beyond the flanges 19 and 20 and also beyond the `stlengthening strip 24, which in the present i. rEhe extending' ends 11 of the reinforc-I hear against the reinforcing instance are preferably made straight and without the flange extensions 11 such as are provided on the reinforcing strips 10, and these extensions have the bolt receiving openings 27 provided therethrough. A plate 28 is made of such over the-extensions 22 of the several panels 18 and then by passing the clamp bolts 29 through this plate and through' the openings 2'? and securing nuts thereon, the plate Will be secured in the proper position to close the opening at the center of the top portion. lt is preferable that a packing strip or ring be placed between the plate 28 and the extension 27, and also this plate is preferably provided With the hand hole or opening 30.
As has been stated, the several side Wall members 1 have the end flanges 3 provided thereon, and these ond flanges are preferably provided with bolt receiving openings, similar openings being provided in registering relation through the several panels 4 and 1S which make up top portions of the ltank. The packing rings 81 are placed upon the end flanges 3 and then by fitting the bottom and top portions in place and securing the same by means of the clamp bolts 32, the bottom and top portions are not only secured in the proper closing position. but also liquid tight joints are provided. The reinforcing strips 3 have end extensions as indicated at 34 and and these reinforcing strips 33 are provided with spaced apart bolt receiving openings, the flanges 2 at the sides of the plates 1 being provided with registering openings. lin assembling theside members previous to the fitting of the top and bottom portions thereon` the packing strips 36 are fitted between the adjacent side langes 2 and with the reinforcing strips 33 placed against the outer sides of these flanges, the clamp bolts 38 are inserted and tightened through the bolt receiving openings to thus strips and secure the plates 1 in rigid mounting :it-their side edges. The extensions 34 and 35, are provided with bolt receiving openings Which register with certain of the openings through the endi'langes 3 and through the top and bottom portions, and thus as the clamp bolts 32 aro fitted in place, certain of these bolts will be passed through the extensions 34 and and consequently the reinforcing strips will be secured at their ends.
From the foregoingr it will be seen that 1 have provided a liquid storage tank which is so constructed that it may be filled up from a plurality of members formed from sheet metal and,-so arranged that a tank of large dimensions may bc"constructed from metal sheets of standard sizes, Iand that through the construction of the tank as is above set forth,- the tank may be shipped in size that it may be fitted the bottom and mamen linockdown form and may then `be assem` bled at the point at which it is to be used by unskilled labor, the only essential point beil Ving that the packing strips shall be properly 16': set forth only certain arrangements-of the parts, it Will 'be understood that strap metal reinforcing'strips might be employed, that fthe construction as described for the top 'elmember might be used lthe bottom of the tank, andtliat other but rather only to such `changes and modifications might be resorted to in the form' and arrangement of the several parts without departing vand scope of my invcntiornand hence il do `not Wish to be limited to the exact disclosure, points as may be set` forth in the claires.-
, I claim:
l. A` tanli including'vvith a substantially cylindrical 'body portion open at its ends, a plurality. of plates oi? substantially sector-shape having flanges provided along the singularly disposed edges thereof and across the narrow end, means by which the several sector-shaped plates are connected together at the side flanges and are thus assembled to provide an endportion for the bod f centi-al opening therein with a ange upstanding around the opening, a substantially circular closing member having a ange around the edge thereof shaped to be itted in con; unction with from the spirit f.
truncated closing lplate is held in ln testimonywhereof I. affix my slgnatureof the tank which end portion has a Within the opening of the end member, and means to secure the closing member in theI fitted position. v p o 2. A ta'nk including with a substantially cylindrical bodyoportion open at the ends, av y plurality of substantiall'Y sector-shaped plates having the pointed ends thereof cut.
away, side flanges provided along the angularly disposed edges' of said members and the narrow ends thereof 'being provide for reception of a closmg member, said side anges having openings provided therethrough to register when the members are fitted together, reinforcing-members fitted on the flanges fasteningmeans passed through the opeY-,
ings ofthe A'reinforced members vand of the ilanges to connect the several plates together 1n an arrangement to substantially close one of the ends of the cylindrical body portion and ,which end member has a circular opening in the center thereof, means to secure the assembled end member upon.the body portion, a circular closing plate to be fitted to cover the opening left atthe center of tho end portion and v having portions thereoi provided to ftlwith the securing portion thereof, `and fastening means by which the the secured position.
in presence of two witnesses.
