ADJUSTABLE WINDOW SHADE AND CURTAIN HANGER.
Application filed January 19, 1918.
To all w/wm it may concern:
Be it known that I, MYRTLE J. Evans, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hillsboro, in the county of Hill and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Window Shade and Curtain Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved adjustable window-shade and curtain hanger by means of which a window shade and also a curtain may be adjustably mounted and secured and adapted to be raised or lowered as may be desired, so that the shade may be lowered, either from the top or the bottom and may be arranged in any desired portion of the window, to secure ventilation and privacy and is especially adapted for use in bedrooms, sleeping porches, operating rooms and the like.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved device of this kind which is cheap and simple in construction, which can be readily installed on a window and which can be readily adjusted as desired.
The invention consists in the construction. combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window frame provided with an adjustable shade and curtain hanger constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Figs. 3 and 4 are detailed sectional views of the same.
In the embodiment of my invention I provide a pair of vertically arranged parallel guide strips 1 the lower ends of which are bent inwardly and downwardly as at 2 and adapted to be secured to opposite vertical sides of a window frame by means of nails, screws or the like. The upper ends of said guide strips are bent inwardly as at 3 and also downwardly to provide flanges 4. which are spaced from said strips and which when the strips are secured in place are engaged with spacer lugs 5 which are secured on the sides of the window frame.
A bar 6 which is preferably made of a strip of sheet metal is provided on its inner or rear side at the ends with loops 7 through which the guide strips 1 extend so that said bar is slidably connected to the guide strips Specification of Letters Patent.

for vertical movement thereon. At the ends of the bar are brackets 8 which are provided with notches in their upper sides adapted respectively to receive the cylindrical and non-cylindrical studs at the ends of a spring curtain shade roller 9 of the kind now generally employed. Hence the shade roller is mounted on the bar for vertical movement therewith. The brackets 8 have outwardly turned outer portions 10 provided with suitable attaching devices 11 to secure a curtain pole 12 so that the curtain pole is also carried by the bar 6 and arranged for vertical adjustment therewith.
A vertically arranged adjusting rod 12 has its upper end attached to one of the brackets 8 of the bar 6 and said adjusting rod passing through and slidable in a guide 13 on one side of the window frame and also passing through and slidable in a suitable guide 14 which is provided with a clamping screw 15 whereby the rod may be secured at any desired vertical adjustment to correspondingly secure the bar.
To support the curtain and bar when the clamping screw is loosened I provide counter-balancing weights 16 and cords 17. One of each of the weights is attached to one end of one of the cords, the other end of the cord being attached to the bracket 8, as at 19, and the cords being passed over the pulley 18 which is mounted on the head of the window frame.
It will be understood that my improved window shade and curtain hanging device enables the shade and curtain to be raised or lowered as may be desired and to be secured in any desired adjusted position.
Having thus described my invention, I claim A window shade hanger comprising vertical guide strips on opposite sides of a window frame and in spaced relation thereto, a bar extending across the window frame, bearing directly against the guide strips and provided on its rear side with loops through which the guide strips extend and so that said bar is slidably connected to the guide strips. and shade roller supporting devices secured to the ends of said bar and arranged on the front side thereof.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
Mas. MYRTLE J. EDENS.
