Specification of Letters Patent.
DOOR AND TRACK.
Patented Dec. 24, 1918.
Application filed August 11, 1917. Serial No. 185,700.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY L. Female, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harvard, in the county of McI-Ienry and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Doors and Tracks, of Which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in door and track and is fully described and explained in the specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which: 1
Figure 1 is an elevation from the side toward which the door swings and taken on line 11,"of Fig. 2 showing a part of the buildin in vertical section; Fig. 2 is a section on line 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a detailed horizontal section on the plane of the track; Fig. 4 is a section on line 4 of Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a section on line 5 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 6 is a section on line 6 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawin '2' 'is the inner of two door sections and 1s hinged to the door jamb 8. An outer door section 9 is hinged to the free edge of the inner section so as to swing, with reference thereto in the opposite direction from that in which the inner section swings-on the wall. Thus the two sections can be swung inward and together as seen in dotted line in Fig. 2. 10 is a track (preferably trolley track) one end of which is carried by a bracket 11 beyond the end of the outer door section when the latter is closed. The track extends at its opposite end, beyond the door j amb and is carried by a horizontal pin 12 which pierces it and which is mounted in a bracket 13 so as to move it in'and out horizontally, a spring 14 holding it normally toward the wall. 15 is a hanger swiveled by a pin 16 in a bracket 17 on the upper free corner of the outer door section.
The operation is as follows: The door beapproach the fu This requires the track to be pushed out a ainst its s rin su ort, and as the doors a P 5 PP open position the hanger runs past the dead center on the track where spring pressure thereafter holds the doors firmly in open position so that they cannot be blown shut. The track thus not only sup ports the outer end of the door but also serves as a dead center' lock yieldingly to hold it open. In case the door is not swung quite so far back so that the hanger does not actually pass the dead center, it always approaches it to such an extent that the spring pressure of the track holds the door sufliciently steady to prevent blowing it closed by gusts of wind.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by LettersPatent is I 1. In combination an inner door section hinged to a stationary support and an outer door section hinged to the free edge of the inner section, a hanger to support the outer edge of the outer section, a track for said hanger running in a diagonal direction from a point adjacent the outer'edge of the outer section when the latter is closed to a point beyond the near edge of the stationary support, and means yieldingly to support the latter end of the track and press the same toward the support. 2. In combination an inner door sectio hinged to a stationary support and an outer door section hinged to the free edge of the inner section, a hanger to support the outer edge of the outer section, a track for said hanger running in diagonal direction from a point ad acent the outer edge of the outer section when the latter is closed to a point beyond the near edge of the stationary support, a support for the latter end of thetrack, a bracket in which the same is yieldingly mounted and a spring holding the track support and pressing the same toward the stationary support of the inner door section.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 26th day of July, A. D. 1917.'
