RAY W. SCOTT, OF HARMON, NEW YORK.
PEDAL MECHANISM.
Application filed March 23, 1917.
To ZZ ywhom t may concern.'
Be it known tha-t I, RAY IV. Sco'r'r7 a citizen of the United States7 residing at. Harmon-on-Hudson7 New York, in the countyv of lllestchester and State of New York. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pedal Mechanism, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in pedal mechanism and more particularly has reference to a folding pedal mechanism especially adapted for use in player pianos. One of 'the principal objects of the invention is to provide a folding pedal structure which will fold up eompactly beneath the front of an upright piano so as not to take any more space in the depth of a piano than is absolutely necessary.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l illustrates a folding pedal mechanism and a part of a piano partly broken away, the same being shown in perspective. F ig. Q shows the same in side view with parts omitted. Fig. 3 is a similar view t0 Fig. 2, except that it shows the pedal mechanism opened out, and Fig. i is another similar view showing` the pedal mechanism partly in its folded position.
indicates the bottom of the piano which may be provided with a suitable bracket or support such as 6 upon which may be secured a block or other suitable retaining` means such as 7 to serve as an anchorage or support for the lever 8 pivotally connected at the front to the toe-piece 9 which in turn pivotally supports the foot board 10 as indicated at 11, and this foot board in turn is pivotally connected at the top to the lever 12 which is pivotally connected at 13 to the bracket 14 which is secured to the movable part 15 of the bellows. 16 indicates a suitable resilient member or spring connected to a bracket such as 17 also attached to the movable part 15 of the bellows to normally maintain the same closed.
To close the pedal mechanism it is only necessary to take hold of the bar 11 and lift the same upwardly and backwardly until the Y same slips over the resilient catch 18 which thereupon retains the said bar and entire Specification of Letters Patent.

mechanism in compactly closed position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. In this operation. it will be observed that the length of the bar S being fixed, the toe-piece 9 is turned inwardly upon the bearing 11 until the same becomes practically parallel therewith and with the foot board 10 while at the same time the bellows become deflated and allows the bracket 14 to move forwardly suificiently to allow the bar 12 to stand substantially vertical and parallel witlrthe foot board 10. thus closing the folding' mechanism in substantially a uniform plane against the front or stationary portion 19 of the bellows.
Of course it will be understood that various modifications may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from'the spirit of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
l. In a folding pedal mechanism, a bellows, a foot board, a link pivotally connected therewith at one end and at the other end to the movable part of the bellows, a pedal support pivotally connected at the opposite end of said foot board, another link pivotally connected at the top of said pedal support and to the Xed portion of said bellows.y whereby said pedal mechanism including' said pedal support may be folded substantially fiat against the front of said bellows.
2. In a folding pedal mechanism, a bellows, a foot board7 a link pivotally connected therewith at. one end and at the other end to the movable part of a bellows, a pedal support pivotally connected at the opposite end of said foot board, another link pivotally connected at the top of said pedal support and to the ixed portion of said bellows, whereby said pedal mechanism including said pedal support may be folded substantially flat against the front of said bellows. said pedal supports connected by a rod and a resilient catch adapted to engage said rod and retain said folding mechanism in position.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aitix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
RAY W. SCOTT.
