To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE G. HANSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bemidji, in the county of Beltrami and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fence Posts and Wire-Fasteners, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to fences and pertains more particularly to wire fences.
The primary object. of this invention is to provide a device to securely fasten the wire to the post.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device which may he removably secured to a post and which when so seecured will hold the fence wire in position.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device which will detachably secure the wire in place.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which:

Referring more particularly to the draw ings the numeral 5 designates an angled post having the edge of one of its sides slanting as at 6 and more clearly shown in Fig. 3. The purpose of the slanting side will be more fully set forth hereinafter.
The wire holding device comprising two parts designated 7 and 8. The part 7, or post engaging member, is substantially oval in shape, although any desired configuration may secures the member to the post, as will be described hereinafter. The inner Wall 10 of the extension is slightly arcuate and terminates in an impinging end 11. Extending from the side adjacent the opposite end he used, and is provided at one end with a lateral extension 9 whichand in parallelism with the extension and of approximately the same length is a stud 12 which carries the member 8. Intermediate the extension and stud a wire re ceiving opening 13 is provided which cemmunicates with an edge of the member 7 through a passage 14, one wall of which, is extended, as at 15, below the edge to guide the fence wire in the passage 14.
The part 8, or wire retaining member, is circular in formation and is provided with an opening 16, which receives the stud 12, eccentrically arranged, making a. cam of the part in its movement about the stud. In order to place the fence wire 17, the wheel or cam 8 has a portion cut away, as at 18, while the notches 19 in the periphery retain the wire in its proper position. The member 8 is secured on the stud bv a cross kev 20 passing through a suitable opening in the stud.
In applying the wire to the device to be fastened, it is first placed in the opening 18 of the wheel 8, which it is held against displacement by the point 21 which has its inner wall 22 inclined tangentially to the axis of the wheel. The wheel is then rotated, the point 21 moving past the part 15, which guides the wire from 18 into the chamber 13. The fastening device is then positioned on the post against the side which has the inclined edge 6, which prevents the device slipping downward, by passing the extension 9 on one side of the post until 11 engages in a groove 23 in the post. The cam wheel 8 is then turned pressing its periphery against the post embedding 10 firmly in the groove 23. The wire 17 is received in one of the notches 19 and is clamped against the post in an effective manner.
Having fully described this invention, what is sought by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with an angular fence post having one of its sides inclined and provided with a groove in parallelism with the edge of the incline, of a wire securing means comprising a member secured to the fence post by a right-angled extension engaging with the groove and having a wire receiving concavity intermediate its ends, a pivot pin extending in parallelism with the right-angled extension at the opposite end of said post engaging member, and a wire retaining member rotatably mounted on the pivot pin.
2. The combination with a fence post having an inclined side and provided with a groove spaced therefrom and in parallelism with the edge of the incline, a wire holding means comprising a member having its inner end bent at a right angle and having an arcuate inner wall terminating in an impinging end engaging with the groove to hold the said member on the post and means for securing said wire on said member.
3. A device for securing wires to a post comprising a post engaging member having a lateral extension on one end and a pivot pin on the other and intermediate thereof a wire rece1v1ng cavlty having commun1cation with the edge of the post engaging member through a passageway, one wall of said passageway extending beyond the lower edge of the member to provide a guide for leading the wire to the passageway, and
means pivotally mounted on the pin to maintain the wire in the cavity.
4:. A device for securing wires to a fence post comprising a post engaging member having a wire holding cavity therein, a passageway leading to said cavity, means for maintaining the member on the post, and a pivot pin mounted thereon, and means for holding the wire in the cavity, said means comprising a member having a notched periphery, one of said notches being somewhat enlarged and provided with depressed inner corners forming a wire sustaining recess, said means being rotatably mounted on said pivot pin. 7
