To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANCISCO CONCHA, a citizen of Peru, residing at Cuzco, Peru, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in necktic tying devices or holders.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple cheaply' constructed device of this character which will cause the collar to snugly fit the neck of the wearer while the tie is being tied and by the use of which after the tie is once tied it may remain so indefinitely, having a loop which may be hooked over and unhooked from one member of said device when the collar is put on or taken off.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it lbeing understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed. may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the embodiment illustrated, this improved device which is especially designed for use in turn-over or double collars is constructed of a strip l composed of Celluloid, leather, or any suitable material having sufficient body to be retained in operative position between the collar folds and preferably being made of slippery material to facilitate its adjustment between the folds. This strip l has a tab 2 depending from its lower edge midway the length thereof, said tab being here shown rounded, although it need not necessarily 'be so formed. This tab 2 has a button hole 3 therein for connection with a collar button at the rear of the neck band of the shirt for holding the device when adjusted in operative position against longitudinal movement. These loops are substantially rectangular in forni, being preferably composed of heavy wire which may be plated or finished in any suitable or desired manner. Theloop is closed throughout while loop 5 is open at its lower end for a purpose to be described. One of the side bars of each of these loops has a recess 6 formed therein, preferably by offsetting a portion of said side bar, the length of said recess corresponding to the width of the ends of the strip l which are designed to be engaged therewith, the ends being secured by any suitable means. When these ends are mounted in these recesses 6, the opposite walls of said recess will serve to hold the strip against movement relative to the loops, as is shown clearly in Fig. 2.

The opposed or front side bars of these loops Ll and 5 have rotary tubular members 7 mounted thereon to facilitate the attachment of the tie relative to the device as will be presently described. The loop 5 is open at it-s lower end having a portion of its rear cross bar cut away between the recessed portion thereof and its lower cross bar 8 which provides for the. insertion between these members of -a loop formed with the running 4 member of a cravat, as will be presently described. l

In the use of this device, the strip l is placed between the folds of a collar indicated at C with the button hole 3 in the tab 2 thereof registering with the button hole at the rear of the collar so that they may be fastened together by engagement in the collar button on the rear of the neck band of the shirt. This strip is so placed in the collar that the open loop 5 is disposed at the left-hand end of the collar andboth of said loop-shaped members project substantially flush with the end edges of the collar or adjacent thereto and are designed to receive the tie to be worn, said tie being here shown at T. In applying the tie the runner thereof is inserted through the loops 4: and 5 spanning the space between said loops and the tie is then knotted in the usual manner, being preferably tied in what is termed a fourin-hand knot. l/Vhen so tied, loops L are formed at opposite sides of the knot of the tie, one of which is engaged permanently with the closed loop 4 and the other detachably engaged with the open loop 5. The device is adjusted by drawing on the running end of the tie so as to draw the collar snugly around the neck band of the shirt and cause it to closely fit the neck of the wearer.

v After this device has been once tied it is avery easy matter to take olf the necktie and collar by simply loosening the running end of the necktie and removing the loop L formed therein from the open loop 5 of the tying device without necessitating untying the knot in the necktie. After this loop has been detached from the loop 5, the necktie, collar and the tying device may be taken off at the same time with the tie carried by the collar ready for future use.

When applying the tie again, either with the same collar or with another, the tab 2 is buttoned in the manner above described and the tie already being knotted, all that is necessary is to insert the free loop L thereof in engagement with the open loop 5 of the tying device and the device may be adjusted to the satisfaction of the user by drawing on this running portion of the necktie. It will thus be seen that the rotary cylindrical members 7 carried by the front cross bars of the loops 4 and 5 facilitate the adjustment of the tie on the holder.

To adapt the device for use with collars of different sizes, they will be supplied with the strips l of different lengths so that the purchaser may select a device to conform to the size of collar which he wears.

While this device is shown in connection with a turn-overor double fold collar, it is to be understood that it may be used equally well in a single collar and when so used, the strip l is shortened so as to position the loops 4 and 5 at points substantially over the shoulders of the wearer so that the strip 1 will be hidden by the collar of the coat, and should the loops 4 and 5 be exposed they will not in any way detract from the appearance of the tie as they may be finished to present an ornamental effect when so used.

By forming the loops 4 and 5 substantially rectangular in shape and engaging the ends of the connecting strip l with one of the side bars thereof at points midway its ends, it will be obvious that the pulling strain of said strip will be centered around the collar band and thereby draw the band snugly into engagement with the shirt band when the tie is engaged with the opposed side bars of these loops 4 and 5.

c From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains and while I have described the principle of operation of the invention together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are within the scope of the claimed invention.

It is also to be understood that this invention prevents collars from being worn at the outer extremities of the button holes. This is owing` to the fact that this device causes the collar in connection with which it is used to t closely the neck 0f the wearer and thus prevents the outer extremities of the buttonholes from frictionally engaging the collar button.

I claim:

l. A necktie holder comprising a neck en-- circling strip, a pair of loops each having an offset recess in one 0f the side bars thereof, the ends of said strip being engaged with said recessed portions of the bars, one of said loops being closed and the other open.

2. A necktie holder comprising a strip of Celluloid having a tab carried by one edge midway its ends, said tab having a buttonhole therein, a pair of substantially rect-angular metal loops each having an offset recess in one of the side bars thereof, the ends of said strip being engaged with said recessed portions of the bars, tubular ymembers mounted to rotate on the other bars of said metal loops, one of said loops being closed and the other o Y en.

3. A necktie older comprising a kneck encircling strip with tie supporting loops at its opposite ends, one of said loops being closed and the other open.

4. A necktie holder comprising a neck encircling'strip with substantially rectangular tie supporting loops arranged transversely of the ends thereof and connected thereto, one of said loops having an opening in its inner side bar near its lower end to facilitate the insertion and removal of a tie loop.
