UNTTE sTATEs PATENT oEEioE.
JOHN H. WELDON, OF COMANCHE, OKLAHOMA.
SANITARY POULTRYLNEST.
Application filed May 16, 1918.
To all yw/Lom. 711? may concern Be it known' that I, Joux H. lVnLDoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Comanche, in the county of Stephens and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Poultry-Nests; and I do Adeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in poultry nests, and more particularly to that type of nests having means incorporated therein for the destruction of mites, lice. etc.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character vwhich is simple in construction and operation and highly efficient.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be easily filled; one which is equipped with means for preventing entrance thereinto of dirt or the like.
With these and numerous other objects in view my invention resides in the novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as set forth in the specification and claims and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application and in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the preferred embodiment of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of my invention.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the plane of line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. d is a perspective view of the modified form of my invention.
Fig. 5 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of my invention.
Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional view on the plane of line 6-6 of Fig. 5.
The preferred embodiment of my invention as illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive comprises a substantially rectangular base 1 formed of wood or other suitable material. said base being provided with a pair of longitudinal parallel spaced tabular openings or cells 2 which extend approximately the entire length of the base 1. The openings or cells are provided with a plurality of outlets 3 opening through the upper face of the base whereby, the gases from the evaporating disinfectant contained in the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 17, 1918.

cells, will pass upwardly through the outthe base, and when they are sufficiently deep the ends are stopped up by plugs 4.
In constructing the side walls of the nest I employ, in theform shown '1n the drawfings, four flat metal plates 5, which are provided at their lower longitudinal edges with laterallyinwardly directed iianges 6 which are' provided with spaced apertures for the reception of any suitable fastening elements to secure the'plates to the base. The plates 5 are inclined outwardly and upwardly and have their opposite ends diverging upwardly so as to fornitightjoints at'the corners, said plates each being provided with an aperture at each eind adjacent the upper edge to receive a suitable fastening element T to connect the plates.
The base 1 projects outwardly a short distance beyond one end of the nest formed by the plates 5 for the purpose of permitting the lling of the cells with a disinfectant through the. filling openings 8 which lead into the cells and are provided with suitable Stoppers 9. The front plate 5 of the walls of the nest is provided in its upper edge with a notch 10 extending substantially the entire length and width of said plate to permit easy entrance into the nest by the fowl.
For the purpose of preventing straw or the like from filling up the outlet openings for the disinfectant, strips of wire netting 19, or the like are fastened over them by any suit-able means.
In order that the nest may begsupported on parallel spaced bars or the like a pair of hooks 13 is secured tothe opposite ends of the base l, said hooks being preferably formed from sheet metal bent into substantially U-shape, but each have one arm longer than the other, each of said longer arms having its end portion bent at right angles to the main body whereby they may be readily attached to the base.
In the modified form of my invention the disinfectant container is in the form of a rectangular pan-like receptacle 14 having vertical side walls 15 which are adapted to be nailed or otherwise secured to the edges of the base 1G. In this form the base 16 is provided with a pair of longitudinal, parallel spaced vertical slits 17 through which the vaporized disinfectant passes. Each slit opens at one end into an aperture 18 through which the disinfectant is poured into the container le. These slits and apertures are covered 'by a wire netting 19 similar to that employed in the preferred form. As illustrated in Figs. i and 5 of the drawings the hooks 13 are formed integral with the receptacle le,
In both forms the filling openings are disposed at the front end of the nest and substantially midway the distance between the front wall of the nest and the edge of the base. It is to be understood that these nests may be manufactured of wood, tin, galvanized iron and other suitable material.
From the foregoing description of the construction and operation of my improved poultry nest the operation will be readily understood and it is also to be understood that numerous changes in the minor details of construction may be made without sacrificing the principal advantages.
I claim l. A device of the class described coinprising a base, a disinfectant container in said base, outlets opening from said container through the upper face of the base,
2. A device of the class described includ i ing a base, a disinfectant container in said base7 said container comprising a pair of horizontally alined longitudinally extending cells in said base, outlets opening from said cells into the upper face of the base, a polysided wall rising from said base, said wall comprising a plurality of elongated plates inclined outwardly and upwardly and having their ends abutting each other and secured together, laterally inwardly directed flanges on the lower edges of said plates, said flanges being secured to the upper face of the base, said cells each being provided with a illing opening; and means for supporting said nest.
in testimony whereof have hereunto set my hand.
JOHN H. WELDON.
