To all whom it may'concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK E. SEABOLDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Suplee, in the county of Chester and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wrenches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in wrenches, and has for its objectto produce a wrench in which the movable jaw may be easily and quickly moved toward the stationary jaw, and therefore minutely adjusted so that a proper engagement of an object b8- tween the jaws and the article operated on may be quickly and properly obtained.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which there is illustrated a simple and satisfactory embodiment of the improved wrench and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a wrench constructed in accordance with this invention;

Referring now to the drawings in detail the stationary jaw of the wrench is indicated by the numeral 10, the same being integrally formed with a substantially right angular shank 11, and on the outer end of the shank is integrally formed a curved handle 12. The shank 11,, from the inner face of the jaw 10 is centrally slotted for a determined length as indicated by the numeral 13, and the side walls provided with the slot on the inner face of the shank having their corners beveled inwardly and provided with spaced notches 14 and intersecting projections 15 forming what may be termed teeth.
The movable jaw is indicated by the numeral 16 and has its inner end provided with slightly rounded shoulders 17, and between extension 18; This extension is received in.
the slot 13 and the said extension, upon the outer end thereof is provided with a head 19 extending laterally of the slot and contact ing with the outer surface of the shank 11 of the stationary jaw. The movable jaw, upon its inner face and at its juncture with the extension 18 is formed with an angular shank 20 which is threaded, and on the outer end of this shank is removably secured a headed end 21 of an arm 22, the said arin projecting through the slot 13 of the shank 11.
The numeral 23 designates a two arm spring, the arms of this spring are bent angularly with respect to each other, the hori- Zontal portions of the arms being indicated by the numerals 24, the same being widened and having their outer ends provided with spaced openings which are preferably elongated. The horizontal limbs are arranged angularly with respect to each other and the openings 25 inthe endsthereof are designed to receive the projecting end of the arm 22, the latter being threaded as at 26 and being engaged by a nut 27.
One of the straight limbs of the angle two leaf spring, contacts with the inner surface of the extension 18, the straight horizontal arms of the spring, one bearing upon the outer edge of the shank 11 and the other upon the inner face of the nut causes the shoulders 17 of the movable jaw to frictionally contact with the inner edge of the shank 11 as well as causing the threaded shank 18 of the said movable jaw to move in the direction of the'shank of the stationary jaw.
Threadedly engaging with the shank 18 of the movable jaw is an operating nut 28, the outer ends of said nut having screw threads 29, these threads engage with the notches 14 and projections 15 on the shank 11.
The nut 27 is in the nature of a head, the same being perfectly round in plan and its upper corner being round or beveled. A pressure upon this head will depress the outer limbs of the spring 23, causing the movable jaw to swing upon its round shoulders 17, bringing the screw threads 29 of the operating nut out of engagement with teeth provided between the notches 14 and 15 of the shank 11. The movable jaw may be thus slid longitudinally of the shank 11 of the stationary jaw so as to bring the jaws into engaging position with respect to an object, or out of such engagement. By turning the nut 28 the threaded bore thereof engaging with the threaded shank of the movable aw will cause the movable jaw to be moved either bet veen or away from the object engaged so that the wrench may be minutely adjusted upon the object or may be removed from the object without inserting a material adjustment between the jaws, when the first grip is to be obtained upon the object.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is 1. In a wrench, a stationary jaw, having a slotted shank provided with threads, movable jaw having round shoulders contacting with one of the edges of the shank and having an extension inward oi the shoulders projectin through the shank, a head on said extension, a threaded angular shank in said movable jaw, an arm connected to the outer end of cured to said arm and contacting the extension of said movable jaw, and an operating nut having an. exterior s *rew surface on said threaded shank and said screw surface engaging with the teeth on the shank of a stationary jaw.

In a wrench, a stationary having a right angular slotted shank, provided at its outer end with a curved handle, said shank said shank, spring means see at the slotted portions thereof having its inner corners provided with intersecting notches and depressions forming teeth, a movable aw having a rounded shoulder contacting with the inner end of a shank of the stationary jaw, said movable jaw having an extension passing through the slot in the shank of the stationary jaw, a head on said extension contacting with the outer edge of said shank, an angle threaded shank on the inner corner of the movable aw at the junc ture of the extension therewith, an arm passing through the slot of the stationary jaw having a headed portion receiving the end of the threaded shank, a two limbed spring having its outer portions bent angularly and extended away from each other, its said outer portions being widened and the ends thereof having registering openings one oi which being elongated, the arms passing through said openings, a removable headed element on the arm contacting with the sp ring, an adjusting nut engaging the threaded shank of the movable jaw, and said nut having its outer surface provided with screw threads which engage with the teeth on the shank of the stationary jaw, all as and for the purpose set forth.
