To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, LOUIS T. Rename, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of Turtle Creek, in the county of Allegheny and State'of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new' and useful Improvements in Flexible-Sheet-Securing Means, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in means for securing the ends of flexible sheets or strips of material such as paper, in engagement with the roller'upon-which they are wound.

The principal object is to provide an attaching means for the end of the paper strips whereby the same is prevented from becoming torn, frayed or broken, in a manner to material] damage the same.

A furt or object is to provide a fastening means which maybe readily applied to the extending ends of sheets, with special reference to rolled music sheets used in connection with selfplaying instruments ofthe piano type, the device preventing the mutilation of the end of the sheet and consequent damage to the same, it beinglwell recognized at are at present employed are easily torn away, damaging or totally destroying the value of the music sheet.

These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of, parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure -1 is a perspective view, showing the end of a conventional type of music sheet, and indicating the application of the invention thereto.

In the drawings the numeral 10 indicates a conventional type of music sheet, the same containing perforations 11, and formed with a beveled end edges 12 as is usual. 1

The roller upon which the sheet is woun as indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawing, consists of a cylindrical body 15,.hav1ng guide flanges 16 at its ends, the roller being pivotally mounted on projecting pins 17, arranged at the ends axially thereof. Centrally of the roller is atransverse recess l8,

in which is secured a hook element 19, the roller throughout being of the usual type of commercial construction.

The invention consists of the use of a thin, narrow strip of metal 20, bent upon itself, forming a loop 21, the rearwardly turned lower element 22 of the strip, i507 gether with the upper element 20, being formed with a plurality of corrugations 24 adapted to be disposed upon opposite sides" of the paper 10, .so as to firmly grip and engage with the same, while in the loop 21 is securedanopen eye or ring 25, engageable with the hook 19 secured in the roller.

In order to further secure the clip elesheet 10, reinforcing sheets of fabric 28 are cemented or otherwise aliixed to the extendingv end of the paper sheet so as to embrace the metallic clip elements, holding them securely to the paper in a manner which will 'ments upon the opposite sides of the paper be readily understood, the showing in Fig.

Thus the ends of paper sheets are firmly grasped between the corrugated surfaces of the metallic clip, the undulations or sinuosities of which are transferred to the end of the paper strip, permitting a very considerable pull to be exerted on the ring 25 without doingsany damage to the music sheet,- while the reinforcing elements28 add materially tothe strength of the joint attained, without interfering with the flexibility of the sheet or being objectionable in any manner whatever;

' While the foregoing shows a preferred embodiment of the invention, it will be readily understood that the same is applicable for many other purposes than that'of connecting music sheet ends with their rollers and further, that the drawing, together with the description, is to be regarded as descriptive rather than l imitative,'as obviously'many other forms embodying the same general principles can be employed for the same or like purpose. i
