To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER N. SGHAN- soHrarr, ay citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York city, county and State uof New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in toys, the object being to provide a toy for children representing an varmored car that is' self-propelled and having a revolving turret containing a gun, special means being provided to force powder (such as talcum or other harmless powder) through the gun, at intervals, to simulate shooting.
I will now proceed to describe my invention in detail, the novel features of which I will point out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming parts hereof, wherein Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a toy embodying my improvements;

The toy above referred to consists of any suitable platform or base 7, preferably provided with driving-wheels 8 and steeringwheels or a single steering-wheel 9 carried by a frame 10 pivoted at 11 to the platform or base 7. Upon the platform or base 7 I mount a turret 12 arranged for rotation in a horizontal plane. 'In this instance the pivotal support consists of a tubular bearing-member 13 rotatably engaging a tubular trunnion 14 carried ,by the base or platform 7. `In this instance the turret 12 is provided with a tubular member 15 (which I will term a gun) open at its inner end, said open inner end being in communication with a magazine 16 to contain powder, indicated by 17, said gun being open at its outer end also. sists of a bellows having a fiXed wall 18 andk a movable wall 19 connected thereto by collapsible sides 20 and end .wall 21, the fixed wall 18 `being provided with an air inlet opening 22 ycovered by a valve member 23 which may consist of a leather Hap. This form of valve is 'common to bellows construction. To charge the magazine, I provide a spout 24 through which powder can be. poured. As can be seen, the movable wall 19 is hinged to the gun at 25 or otherwise pivotally secured thereto. To cause the powder to gravitate toward the breech 26 of the gun, I slant the movable wall 19 of the bellows, or dispose it at an angle relatively thereto, to provide a surface which is inclined toward the said breach 26.
When the toy is in motion, the movable wall 19 will be raised and lowered. When the wall 19 is raised, air will be forced out through the gun, carrying some powder with it, to simulate smoke, in the form of a puff.
To actuate the said movable wall, I provide a vertically movable rod or pin 27 actuated by a crank 28 carried by a shaft 29 The pin or rod 27 is slidably mounted in the trunnion 14. The movable wall 19 of the bellows rests upon said pin 27.
To operate the shaft 29, I provide Aa motor consistingI of a spring 30 surrounding a winding spindle 31. The spring is secured at one of its ends to said spindle 31 and at the other end to a gear 32 loose upon the spindle 31, said gear 32 meshing with a gear 33 on the crank shaft 29. As this form of spring motor is well known, a detailed showing thereof is deemed unnecessary. The

To operate the wheels 8, or their shaft 36, I provide the Said shaft with a gear 37 meshing with a gear 38on the winding spindle 31. To rotate the turret 12, I provide rotatable disks 39 and 40 carried by a shaft 41 mounted in bearings 42. The shaft 41 carries a gear 43 meshing with a gear 44 on the driven crank shaft 29. To wind the spring 30, I provide a hancllamember 45 carried by the spindle 31 and located eXteriorly of the platform 7. When the toy is in motion, or, in other words,'running along a table or floor, the pin 27 will have imparted thereto a reciprocating motion which will actuate the bellows to force air thereiov from and also some powder, in the form of puffs; at the same time the turret 12 will be rotated in a horizontal plane bythe disk 39 (for instance) which is driven by shaft 41,

To assist the powderKV 17 to feed toward the ybreech of the gun, I may employ an agitator 46 (Fig. 5) consisting of a vertically movable pin 47 moved in one direction by the crank 28 and in the opposite direction by a spring 48, the pin being carried by a bracket 49. During ther rotation of the crank 2S, it will strike the projection 50 on the pin 47 and force it downwardly. When the crank leaves said projection, during its revolution, the spring 48 will snap the pin againstr the upper wall of the platform, thereby causing a jar which will act to cause the powder to settle toward the breech of the gun.
The steering wheels or wheel 9 may be provided with projectionsl which will act to agitate the powder and cause it to settle toward the breech of the gun during the revolution of said wheel or wheels. YThe projections will impart a jar to the mechanism during the rotation of the wheels provided therewith. Instead of placing the projections upon the steering-wheel or wheels, I may place them on the driving wheels, or I may dispense with same entirely where the toy isintended to be drawn over rough roads or surfaces.
lhat I claim as my invention is:
1. The combination of a platform, a miniature gun rotatably mounted thereupon, and means to force powder through the gun in the form of puffs to simulate smoke.
2. The combination of a platform, wheels therefor, a motor to rotate said wheels, a miniature gun carried by the platform, and means actuated by the motor to force powder through said gun in the form of puffs to simulate smoke.
3. The combination of a miniature gun, a magazine connected thereto to contain pow,` der, said magazine comprising a bellows, and'means to actuate the bellows to force said powder through the gun to simulate smoke.
4. The combination of a support, arotatable turret carried thereby, a miniature gun projecting through said turret, a magazine within the turret to contain powder, said magazine being connected to said gun, and means to force the powder out of the magazine through said gun in the form of puffs to simulate smoke.
5. The combination of a support, a rotatable turret carried thereby, a miniature gun projecting through said turret, a bellows also within the turret arranged to force powder through said gun, and means to simultaneously rotate the turret and actuate said bellows.
6. The combination of a support, wheels carried thereby, a rotatable turret carried bv the platform, a miniature gun carried by the turret,'avbellows also within the turret arranged to force powder through said gun, and means to rotate said wheels and the turret and to actuate said bellows simultaneously.
7'. The combination of a support, a miniature gun carried thereby, a bellows to force powder through said gun, a pin contacting with 'the movable wall of said bel-lows, a crank to actuate said pin, and a motor to actuate said crank.
8. The combination of a support, a rotatable turret carried thereby, rotatable bearing members upon which the turret rests by gravity, a miniature gun carried by the turret, means to force powder throughl said gun, and means to rotate said bearing members and actuate the powder forcing means simultaneously.
9. The combination of a miniaturegun, a magazine connected thereto to contain powder, consisting of a bellows having an angularly disposed movable lower wall, the angle of inclination being in the direction of the breech of the'gun, whereby the powder within the magazine will gravitate toward the said gun, and means to actuate said movable lower wall to force powder through said gun.
10. The combination of a platform,wheels carried thereby, a rotatable turret also carried by the platform, a miniature gun carried by the turret, a magazine within the turret, to contain powder, connected' to said gun, said magazine consisting of a bellows having a lower movable wall, a vertically disposed longitudinally movable pin carried by the platform and contacting with said movable wall, a crank to actuate said pin, means to rotate said turret, and a spring motor to rotate said wheels and to actuate the turretl rotating means and said crank.
11. The combination of a platform, wheels carried thereby, a rotatable turret also carried by the platform, a miniature gun carried by the turret, a magazine within the turret, to contain powder, connected to said gun, said magazine consisting of a bellows having a lower movable wall, a vertically disposed longitudinally movable pin carried by the platform and contacting with said movable wall, a crank to actuate said pin, rotatable bearing members carried by the platform upon which the turret rests by gravity, and a motor to rotate said wheels, the turret bearing means and to actuate said crank.
12. The combination of a miniature gun, means to force powder through the gun, and
jarring means to agitate the powder to cause it to settle toward the breech of the gun.
13. The combination of a support, a miniature gun carried thereby, a bellows to force a powder through the gun, means to actuate the bellows, a spring actuated, agit-ating pin arranged to snap against said support to impart a jar to the powder supply to cause the powder to settletoward the breech of the gun, and means to operate the bellows actuating means and to compress the spring for the agitating-pin whereby said pin will be forced against said support when said spring is released.
14. The combination of a rotatable support, a miniature gun carried thereby, and

The combination of a support, a turret rotatably supported thereby, a miniature gun carried by the turret, means to force powder through the gun in the form of puii's tosimulate smoke, means to rotate the turret, and means independent of the turret operating means to operate the powder forcing means.
