citizen of the United States, residin at Worcester, in the county of Worcester, tate of Massachusetts, have linvented a certain new and useful Improvement in Woven Carriers, of which the following is a specification, reference being hadtherein to theV accompanying drawings.

The invention has relation to pocketed carriers `made of woven material, on thevorder of those which are used for holding and carrying cartridges, packaged first-aid. supplies, etc.

The invention isv Iapplicable in the manufacture of cartridge-carriers, hospital corps belts, medical officers belts, and other carriers having various special adaptations.V

A carrier of the class to which the invention relates is made ordinarily in the form of a belt, or of a section of `a belt, the belt or respective belt sections comprising a supporting-band, a pluralityrof pockets which project from said band, and, usually,l pocketcovers or flaps which are connected fleXlbly with the band.

The invention consists in a carrier of novel and improved construction made up of parts which are composed of pieces of woven material that are fastened together to give them the required form and unite them.

signed to4 receive the hooks of hangers, etc., for the suspension of various supplemental pieces of equipment are set in this reinforced portion of the band. The reinforcement provides for the better holding of the eyelets, and protects the said marginal portion from giving way or tearing under the strain that is applied at the eyelets.

To provide a housing-slit for the reception of the rearward attaching extensions 5a, 5a, of the pocket-covers or iaps 5, 5 the top marginal portions lb, lb, ofthe different thicknesses composing the upper portion of such band are secured together along a line 6 that 1s locatedA at a sho-rt distance below the top of the band. Prior to the application of the pocket-covers or iiaps the said top marginal portions l", lb, are not connected together above the line, and they are capable of being opened away from each other as far down as such line for the reception of such extensions between them. The bottom of the said housing-slit adjoining the line of fastening 6 serves as a stop which limits the depth to which the extensions may be inserted in-to the housing-slit in assembling the covers or flaps in connection with the band, and which also assists in keeping the covers or flaps in proper positions relative to the band untiland while thel said top marginal portions l", l", and the extensions 5a, 5a, be-

The reinforce is a narrow strip of woven material which is inclosed between the two thicknesses adj acent the said fold. The margin in which the bottom eyelets 4, 4, are set is stronger because of the fold. Therlatter incloses and conceals the adjoining edge of the reinforce, and gives a smooth finish to the lower edge of the supporting-band. In some cases, other approved fastenings or means of connecting the various thicknesses together may be substituted for the stitches ofthe lines 6, 7 but stitches are preferred.

. The pockets may be, in general, variously made and attached to the supporting-band. The drawings show pockets embodying certain improvements ,constituting the invention that is covered by the divisional application filed October 23,1917, Serial No.'l98,08. The blank shown in Fig.12 is employed in The said blank is substantially T-shaped, it havingV the ftwo .opposite wing-portions 2", 2b, which are adapted to constitute the lateral portions or sides of the pocket, and the intermediately projecting portion 2d adapted to constitute the front of the pocket. The side-portions and front portions are bent upward at right `angles to the central portion 2e, which constitutes the bottom of the pocket, and the overlapping margins of the said sides and front are secured the angles between the side and front. The front margins of the sides 2b, 2b, are int'urned to conceal and protect their raw or cut'edges. The top of the pocket is bound with a` tape 2g jwhichincloses and conceals the raw or vc'ut top edges of the sides and front, and gives a smooth finish. A carrier comprising one or more pockets and one or more pocket-covers or flaps, and a supporting-band composed of a piece of woven material folded upon itself lengthwise of the carrier, reinforced along the lower margin, with eyelets set in the reinforced portion, having its juxtaposed portions fastened `together along a line at a distance from the top edge of. the band so as to produce a housing-slit and a bottoming-stop for the rearward attaching extension or extensions ofthe cover or covers, with theV sides of the housing-slit and the interposed extension or extensions fastened together.

8. A carrier comprising one or more pockets and one or more pocket-covers or flaps, and a supportin -band composed of a piece of woven material folded upon .itself lengthwise of the carrier, reinforced along the lower margin, with eyelets set in the reinforced portion, having its juxtaposed 'portions fastened together by a line of stitches at a distance from the top edge of the band so as to produce a housing-slit and a bottoming-sto-p for the rearward attaching Y 1 extension or extensions of the cover or covers, with the sides of the housing-slit and the interposed extension or extensions fastened together. 9. A carrier comprising one or more pockets and Vone or'more pocket-covers or flaps,

and a supporting-band composed of a piece of woven Imaterial folded upon itself lengthwise ofthe carrier, and reinforced by a reinforce inclosed within the fold, and with eyelets set in the reinforcedk portion, and

having its juxtaposed portions fastened together along a line at a distance from the top edge of the band so .as to produce a housing-slit and a bottoming-stop for the rearward attaching extension or extensions of the cover or covers, with the sides of the housing-slit and the interposed extension ory extensions fastened together.

10. A carrier comprising one or more pockets and one or more pocket-covers or iaps, and a supporting-band composed of a piece of woven material folded upon itself lengthwise ofthe carrier, and reinforced by a reinforce inclosed within-the fold, and with -eyelets set in the reinforced portion,

having its juxtaposed portions fastened to- Y gether by a line of stitches at a distance from the 4top edge of the rband so as to produce la housing-slit and a bottoming-stop for the'rearward attaching extension or extensions of the cover or covers, with the sides of the housing-slit and the interposed extension or extensions fastened together.
