To all whoml it may concern:
. Be it -known that vLSTAcr B. HAsEtnmi, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State yof Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Draw-Bar and Yoke Connections, of which the following `is a full, clear, concise, .and exact description, reference being had to" the accompanying ldetachable draw bar and yoke connection for railway draft riggings and ,wherein may be employed the standard draw bars and old yokeLS't-.raps without modification of the latter. y

In'said drawing, 10 denotes a standard draw-bar having the usual upper and lower shoulders 11-11 and standardly located rivet receiving holes 12-12 in the upper and lower walls thereof. A wrought iron U- shaped yoke of well known design is indicated at 13, the same having the free endsV of the arms thereof also provided with standardly located rivet receiving holes 14e-14. The ends of said yoke arms are also shown as provided with inturned gibs 15-15 as sometimes employed.

bar and yoke without modification of either, I employ the following arrangement: Two upper steel, relatively short pins 16--16 are extended through the upper sets of rivet holes in the yoke and draw bar and a cor- 4respondin pair of pins 116 are extended throught e 'lower sets of rivet holes in the yoke and draw bar. All of said pins 16 and 116 are provided with heads 17 so as to prevent the pins from passing completely through .the rivet holes andsaid'heads 17 are left projecting beyond the adjacent surfaces of the yoke strap for reasons appearing hereinafter. To hold v the pins in place,- I employ a Vband-like arrangementconsisting of an inverted U-,shaped plate 0r stirrup' 18 which extends over the upper pin 16-and down the sides of the draw bar, and a removable cross key 19 at the bottom forming the fourth side of the band. Said key 19 may be held against accidental displacement by any suitable means, such as the Cotter 2O and shouldered end 21.l Preferably, I employ a U-shaped plate 22 ittingover the key 19 withinthe band although the same is `not necessary.
It is obvious that the arrangement above described will hold the pins 16-116 in place provided the-band does notslip lengthwise of the yoke. In order to lrevent this longitudinal displacement andp do so at a mini.- mum expense, I utilize two plates 23 and 24. The upper plate 23 is interposed between the top portion ofthe band and the upper yoke arm, said plate being suitably apertured, as indicated at 25, to accommodate the heads of the pins 16, said plate 23 being of a thickness corresponding to the thickness of the said heads. It is thus obvious that the plate 23 cannot shift lengthwise because of its shouldered engagement with the headed pins 16. In order to prevent the band or upper portion thereof from shifting, the ends of said plate 23 are upturned or shouldered, as indicated at 26, so as to engage the front and rear edges'of the top section of the band. The lower plate 24 is similarly apertured to accommodate the heads of the lower pins 116, as indicated at 27, and to prevent shifting of the lower portion of the bar, said plate 24 is provided with laterally extended shoulders 28--28 at the four corners thereof, said shoulder overlapping the side edges of the dependin arms of the stirrup 18.

adapted to prevent longitudinal displacement of said band-like member relatively to the yoke when all the parts are in assembled relation. f j v 2. A detachable connection for draw bars and yokes having alined perforations for the reception of fastening me-ans such as rivets, said connection comprising headed elements adapted to be inserted into said perforations With the heads projecting beyond the outer sides of the yoke arms,r a band-like member arranged to 4 extend around the draw bar, yoke, and said elements to hold the latter in place, and means, having shouldered emga-gement with said band-like member and said projecting heads, adapted to prevent longitudinal displacement of Said band-like member relatively to the yoke When all the parts are in assembled relation, said means including a pla-te arranged to be interposed between one Wall of the 'band-like member and the adjacent arm of the yoke, the plate being apertured yto accommodate the heads of said elements and shouldered at its'ends to engage the band-like member.
4. A detachable connection for draw bars I said alined perforations, a band arranged to surround said pins, draw bar and yoke when all the parts are assembled, and a plate cut away to accommodate the headed pins and having shouldered engagement with the band.
5. The combination with a draw bar and U-shaped yoke having alined standardly spaced rivet receiving holes, of upper and low-er sets of relatively short headed pins penetrating the upper and lovver` sets of said holes, the heads of said pins projecting beyond the adjacent surfaces of the yoke arms, a plate fitting over the heads of two of said pins, a band surrounding the draw bar, yoke and all of said pins, said plate having shoulders formed at its ends over lapping the adjacent portions of said band to thereby prevent longitudinal displacement of the band.
