Be it known that I, S'rnvn Mrzsaii,

a citi- 'zen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful linprovements in Shoe-Heels, of which the following is a specification.

, This invention relates to new and useful improvements in shoe heels and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for making the bottom or lower riser of the heel removable, so that when the saine becomes worn it may be replaced by a new one.

Other objects of the invention are to pro- `vide a plate connected with the heel and provided with downwardly projecting parts, a second plate secured to the removable or bottom riser and provided with upwardly projecting parts for engaging the projectingparts ofthe other plate and means for connecting said projecting parts together.

Anotherobject of .the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and eificient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.

The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specically pointed out in the appended claims.

ln describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a vertical section heel provided with my invention.

Fig. 2 is a bottom view with the removable riser omitted.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the upper plate.

Fig. 4 is a like view of the lower or removable plate.

Fig. 5 shows a modification.

As shown in these views the heel 1 is composed of a plurality of risers 2, as is usual. In carrying out my invention I locate a plate 3 of metal or the like between the risers adjacent the bottom of the heel, the drawings showing the plate as carried by the second and third risers A and B. This plate is made of substantially the shape of the riser,

though of less dimensions so tirely inelosed by the riser. The edges of said plate are scalloped as at l to leave T- shaped projecting portions 5. The ends o these T- haped projections are bent at right as to be enteo angles to be pressed into the leather of the riser. The central part of the plate is cut and the cut part bent upwardly to form an ear 6, the edges of which ,are bent at right angles which make said ear of channel form. A lug 7 is secured to the plate a distance from said ear and being in the same plane therewith and this lug is provided .with a screw threaded opening 8. The end of the plate is provided with an extension 9 and this extension is bent at right angles and its sides bent inwardly to form a channel shaped lug 10. This lug is provided with an opening 11 which is of larger diameter than the threaded opening: and said openings `are in the same plane. The risers A and B carrying said plate are slotted `as at-12, said slot extending from the front face of the riser inwardly and adapted to receive both the

7 and 10 and the risers are also provided with an opening 13 spaced a distance from the inner end of the slot for receiving the channel shaped ear 6. After the plate is placed in position on the risers these risers A and B are nailed to the other risers with the plate between them as shown in Figs. 1 and Q.

The bottom plate 14 is nailed to the lowermost riser 15 and the metal of said plate is cut and bent upwardly to provide the end lugs 16, having their outer edges curved as shown. 17 is the central lug extending at right angles to the end lugs 16 and provided with an opening 18, the end lugs being so located that the opening is centrallvv arranged in relation to said lugs. 19 is the innermost lug which is spaced a distance from the central lug and this lunr is adapted to engage with the channel shaped ear 6 and the opening 13 when the plates are brousrht together. The lug 17 will pass between the end of the slot 12 and the lug 7 and the holes in these two lugs will be in alinement. The end lugs 16 will pass into the space between the lug 7 and the extension 9. A screw 20 is then passed through the opening 11 into the screw threaded hole 8 so that its end will engage the hole 18 in the lug 17 to hold the bottom riser in position.

It will thus be seen that when the bottom riser becomes worn the screw may be removed and the riser and bottom plate removed and a new riser with the bottom plate attached put in its place. The bottom risers may be sold separately or a shoe maker.

'The hole ll in the extension 9 is made large enough to permit the head of the screw to pass thereinto so that said head Will be flush With the extension and said extension is so formed as to Cover up the end of the slot l2. n

In the modification shown in Fig. 5 the lug 19 is made of curved shape as is also the ear G. In this manner these parts serve to hold the bottom .plate in position.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it te be understood. that I may make such changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such. changes fall Within the sc ope of the appended Claims.

What l claim is:-
